The Emergency Nurses Association, American College of Emergency Physicians, and American Academy of Emergency Medicine worked together on several issues: 1) They agreed on a "Procedural Sedation Consensus Statement" supporting nurse-administered sedation to help patients tolerate procedures. 2) They objected to two Joint Commission standards regarding medication reconciliation and requiring drug lists for all emergency department patients. 3) They argued that some nurse-initiated protocols including medical interventions should not always require an order from an independent licensed practitioner.
