Statistics NZ provides a picture of
Māori well-being and development
Te Ao Mārama 2012 is our new publication specifically for Māori. It
gives a snapshot of Māori well-being and development by touching
on economic, social, cultural, and environmental statistics.
According to the latest statistics, an estimated 673,500 people are
of Māori ethnicity in New Zealand. While we have published
statistics about Māori in the past, until now few publications have
made the information accessible and easy to understand.
We have also developed the Māori section on our website. This
gives easy, fast, and convenient access to a wealth of information
related to Māori.
Order print copies of Te Ao Mārama 2012 (in English or te reo) by
phoning 0508 525 525 or emailing info@stats.govt.nz.
 Population mythbusters
Our population mythbusters examine some common beliefs about
population in New Zealand to see whether they hold any truth. Is
New Zealand really losing skilled and educated people to other
countries? Do one-half of all marriages really end in divorce? What
is New Zealand’s biggest city? Exactly how many more sheep are
there than people in New Zealand?
Find out the answers at Population mythbusters.
New NZ.Stat tool to replace Table
Builder
NZ.Stat beta release is now available for users to trial. It will
replace Table Builder later in 2012.
NZ.Stat is a free online tool that allows users to extract Statistics
NZ data and organise it in tables. This will enable New
Zealanders, especially business people, to quickly and easily find
relevant information.
This web tool is part of a new fast system that will eventually
allow you to automatically update databases in real-time.
Try NZ.Stat beta release.
