Introducing:
the next generation
of i-Ready®
lessons
Close Reading brought to life
See it live!
i-Ready.com/NextGeneration
Integrated at no
additional cost to current
i-Ready Instruction licenses.
2 i-Ready.com
Create a thoroughly immersive Close Reading
experience with the new era of i-Ready Instruction
Effective close reading instruction involves scaffolding
students to draw meaning from the text
Students read each text multiple times. Each
reading has its own Big Question, which focuses
students’ attention and sets a different, increasingly
complex purpose for reading.
Brought to life through innovative interactivity, our new close reading lessons allow
students multiple opportunities to deeply engage with challenging and high-quality texts,
while friendly i-Ready characters guide them on their path to becoming thorough
and analytical readers. These new lessons are found within the reading
comprehension domain of i-Ready Instruction, and just like other lessons, are
automatically assigned, tracked, and available through the online reports.

Read to
Understand:
First, students read to
understand what the
text says at a literal level.
Read to Analyze:
Then, students dive
deeper and analyze
what the text means.
Read to Write:
Finally, students integrate
their analysis of the text with
other ideas in order to write
about what they have read.
4 i-Ready.com
Add a powerful layer of engagement
with unique interactivity
With many bold, innovative features, the new interface keeps
students motivated as they experience and grow accustomed to
reading rigorous text independently.
Lively discussion
Students engage in discussion about
the text with i-Ready characters, sending
instant messages, or “texts,” and asking and
answering text-dependent questions.
Easy access to definitions
of Tier 2 and 3 vocabulary
Hyperlinked words allow students access to
definitions and content to help them unlock the
meaning of the text they’re reading.
An instructional approach that requires students
to read actively
5800-225-0248
A range of item types drive students back to the text
Multiple opportunities throughout the lesson
engage students in writing about the text
Extended writing
responses
A culminating writing task
in each lesson challenges
students to consolidate their
learning and demonstrate their
understanding of the text. In a
multi-paragraph essay, students
cite specific textual evidence
to support conclusions drawn
from the text.
Writing with emoticons
In short, frequent quick-writes, students use a fun
emoticon wheel to express their opinion about
what they’ve read, or to say whether they agree
or disagree with ideas in the text and explain
why they feel this way.
Graphic organizers
In every lesson, students
graphically organize
information found in the text,
such as main ideas and details
or causes and effects, in
addition to answering multiple-
choice and tech-enhanced
questions.
6 i-Ready.com
Finding texts that are appropriate for scaffolding students’ reading
can be extremely challenging! That’s why each Close Reading

texts with challenging ideas, structure, and language.
Expose students to rich, compelling
