To be tasked with making any product
“unbreakable” is a tall order, but this was
the mission of Kikuo Ibe, the creator of
G-SHOCK, when it came to making his mark
on the world of watches. In true form (and
thanks to Ibe, of course), the G-SHOCK
Premium range has now emerged as the
world’s foremost collection of adventure-
proof watches.
But often, when the worlds of strength
and technicality join, the end result can
be a little bereft of beauty. However, Ibe’s
vision on the MTG-S1000V (pictured, right)
was to create a watch that is as sleek on the
wrist as it is steadfast in the face the boldest
pursuits – the perfect marriage for any
watchmaker. After all, the structure of the
timepiece is designed specifically to resist
gravity, freezing temperatures, high water
pressure and keeps magnetic fields at bay.
No wonder a number of astronauts turn
to G-SHOCK when on the hunt for an
out-of-this-world watch. Each characteristic
is a singular triumph that supports the
G-SHOCK motto, “Never Give Up”, but
when partnered with the collection’s design
– a particular styling that most tough
watches lack – it takes it to a new level. The
application of black ion-plating undergoes
an ageing process to give the MTG-S1000V
a distinct look, a similar trait to the more
classic G-SHOCK MTG GPS (opposite,
middle), with both fitting in effortlessly to
the G-SHOCK Premium collection. What’s
more, the MTG GPS ensures the world’s
most accurate time by harnessing GPS
functionality, while the Gulfmaster
(opposite, right) is equipped with a tide
graph display and a digital compass.
Tough yet undeniably luxurious: this
collection is set to be a favourite in AW15
for those looking to get their hands (or
wrists) on an unbreakable piece
of hardware. Available at Goldsmiths and
online at g-shock.co.uk
