2. INTRODUCTION
• When most people think of pyramids, they typically think of Egypt. But in fact, there are pyramids all
around the world. I will be giving you a short tour of 5 such pyramids. Perhaps this tour will peak your
interest, and you will go on to discover even more!
3. The Pyramid of the Sun
This pyramid is located
in Teotihuacan, Mexico.
It is 233.5 feet high, and
its base measures 2,933
feet. Its construction
began in 100 A.D. It is
part of a large complex at
the heart of the city.
4. The Nubian Pyramids
The Nubian pyramids
are located in Meroe,
Sudan. This site holds
close to 200 pyramids
in a small area. These
pyramids were all built
in a 900 year span,
between 800 B.C. and
280 A.D.
5. Ziggurat of Ur
This pyramid is located in
Ur, Iraq. It was first built
in the 21st century B.C.,
and reaches far back into
the roots of civilization. It
decayed over the years,
and was restored in 6th
century B.C. In 1991 it
took substantial damage
in the first gulf war, but
still stands strong today.
6. Pyramid of Cestius
This pyramid is located
in Rome. Italy. It was
built circa 12 B.C. It is
125 feet high and 100
feet square at the base. It
is largely incorporated
into the modern city,
and is thus one of the
best preserved ancient
buildings in Rome.
7. The Pyramids of Giza
A tour of the pyramids
would not be complete
without showcasing the
pyramids of Giza, Egypt.
This famous trio was
built circa 2575– 2465
B.C. on the west bank of
the Nile river. These
pyramids once shone
brilliantly as they were
once covered in
limestone. However they
have since been
plundered of their
beauty.
