2. Human Services with Criminal Justice
Emphasis
In two months I will be graduating with my Associate’s degree in Human services with a
Criminal Justice emphasis. In my career I would like to work with troubled youth who are in the
juvenile justice court system. I would like to explore every subject possible in my career for
example: drug abusers, probation, gangs, teen pregnancy’s in order to advise and promote
awareness in the community. My Ideal career is to be a Juvenile Probation Officer.
Juvenile Probation duties acquire:
Perform social investigations and evaluations of juvenile offenders
Conduct interviews with relatives, employers, and members of other social programs
Refers juvenile to additional social programs or assistance as needed
Meet with juvenile offender on a regular basis at corrections office or offsite as needed
Must be able to provide crisis intervention in high risk situations

Why you ask?: One of my main achievements in my career is to help adult parolees who are transitioning out of prison placing them
into a more suitable setting to help them transition back into society and succeed on what lies ahead for them. Now in order to do so I
must create a suitable, yet a concreate foundation.
My first concept is to purchase a housing property to flip and sell to the government where the location of the property are near to
such necessities such as transportation, centralized jobs and most off all an unbelievable amount of square footage to benefit from at
such a low cost. I finally came across a property that according to my real estate agent, if I were to fix up comparable to the
neighborhood, than it would sell for $200,000 to the government.
On top of that, there are several comps in the area in the past six months that give me the confidence that $200,000 is a fair and
reasonable price.
I take the $200,000 and multiply it by 70%
ARV=$200,000
70% rule: $200,000 x .70 = $140,000
Now I take my $140,000 and deduct my repair costs. Say the rehab expenses to flip are $40,000 according to my contractor. Then I
subtract the $40,000 from the $140,000. This will then give me the maximum price I should pay for the property:
Repair costs = $40,000 70% rule = $140,000
$140,000 – $40,000 = $100,000 Maximum purchase price = $100,000!

4. Concept#2:Juvenile Caseload
In my career I would like to work with juvenile delinquents who are mandated under
the juvenile court system. Incorporating mathematics into my work can allow me to monitor
my clients better. Perhaps my clients are mandated into a “drug court” program designed for
juvenile drug users to prove to the courts that the juvenile can and will stay clean during the
program. Some clients keep clean during their program, others reoffend testing positive for
drugs and finding themselves being sent back to juvenile detention.
If I lose 5 clients I’m given 9 in return, how many would I expect to be given if I lose 3
clients?
5/9=3/x
Multiply both sides by x
5/9x=3
Multiply both sides by 9
5x=27
Divide both sides by 5
x=5.4 rounding gives me 5 clients in return.
