It’s simple enough to enter the expo, but how do you enter a productive conversation with a
prospect that’s mutually prosperous? You can’t summon charisma with a snap of your fingers,
but it’s certainly something you can work on. Ask yourself some important questions.
Are you dressed for success? Color coordinated and comfortable in your clothes, so you’re not
starched stiff? In the bustle of an expo, the close quarters can welt your collar. But don’t sweat.
Wear ironed clothes with good ventilation.
Are you bringing the right materials? For some, networking begins and ends with a business
card. But not or you! Attendees are encouraged to bring portfolios of their work, projects, and
plans. You’re either a potential partner, or a passerby.
Are you rehearsed? No one is going to take you seriously if you’re reading pen scribbles off
your palm, but it doesn’t hurt to know what you’re talking about. Anticipating subjects of conver-
sation can stilt your conversation. So prepare, but don’t predict.
