Novel coronavirus or covid-19 has troubled people all over the world since its first incidence in
December. 2019. Thanks to our researchers and scientists, we are now able to get vaccines to fight
against the coronavirus. In view of an emergency-like situation caused by this deadly virus, the
vaccination programs are in full pace in many countries. But still, there is a large scope of studies
and researches around coronavirus and its vaccine.
Like any other vaccine, covid vaccines also have some temporary side effects such as fever,
swelling or tenderness in arms, fatigue, and headache for one or two days. These side effects prove
that the immune system of the body is responding to the vaccine.
The vaccine is now available to the 18 to 45 age group. The women falling under this age group,
generally menstruate and have reported a new side effect that is an irregular period cycle after
getting the job. Some women have witnessed heavy flow, while some totally missed their periods.
Apart from this menstrual irregularity, a new rumor has surfaced in social media is that the covid
vaccine affects fertility and it is unsafe to get vaccinated before and after 5 days of your periods. Dr
Shivani Sachdev Gour said that it is a complete myth that covid vaccines are affecting women’s
fertility. Covid vaccines are completely safe and cannot affect fertility. However, studies are still
going on the fact whether there is any relation between the corona vaccine and the menstrual
cycle. But it is sure that even if there is any relation, it is temporary, merely for 2 or 3 days.
Possible Relation with Menstrual Cycle
Since no study has claimed the relationship between the corona vaccine and menstrual cycle, there
is no certain cause for the same. However, some experts suggest the following possible causes.
The immune cells are present in each part of the body, so in the Uterus lining as well. Immune
cells are responsible for the formation and breaking of the womb lining. This lining thickens to
prepare for the pregnancy and conceiving. If no egg is fertilized, this lining breaks and causes the
period cycle. Since the vaccine directly acts on the immune system, it may break or thicken the
uterus lining to cause an early period or delay it for someday, respectively.
If a woman has just started some hormonal medication that possibly showed its effects around
vaccination day. It may seem, it is causing by the vaccine, but in reality, it is because of the
hormonal pills she is already taking.
It may also cause by stress, unhealthy food, or any other issue.

3. When Can a Woman Get Pregnant after
Menstruation?
The menstrual cycle is initiated after the hormones trigger the production of the mature eggs,
while the vaccine fires the immune system and produces the antibodies to fight the disease. Thus,
there is no direct link appears between the covid vaccine and the menstrual cycle, and this side
effect is also temporary. There is a need for official data for women witnessing this side-effect on
and a proper study is required. For any query on irregular menstruation cycles, contact SCI IVF
