2. ASCARIASIS
Ascarid worms are very host specific.
Different species of ascaries effect the specific host like
( taxocara vitulorum taxocara cati) dog cat and whild.
Ultimately mature there.The prepetand period is 6 to 8 weeks In case of A suum
and 1 to 15 weeks in case of prascaris equorum.
Taxocara vitolorum and texocara vitolorum and taxocara canis have more
complex life cycle.
Larva instead of travelling to the intestine settle in the somatic tissues.
3. PATHOGENESIS
Migration of larva through the intestine causes hemorrhage in the intestine.
Migration of larva through the liver results in hemorrhage and fibrosis.
The most serious damage accours in the lungs where the larva provoke alvular
injury with edema hemorrhage and consolidation.
There is also hemorrhage in bronchiole and bronche
Effected parts of the lungs are surrounded by eseosinophil or neutrophils..
4. EPIDEMIOLOGY
T.vitolorum and t.canis are present in greatest number in the colostrum so if the
dam is not properly de worm.
The colostrum may be important source of infection to the calf and pups
5. CLINICAL FINDINGS
Cattle and buffalo
It is a serious pathogen for the calfs important clinical findings are
1 diarrhea and emacaiation infected calfs in there breathing emit butyric acid order beside
the large belly and rough body coat
Stundit growth are also the fat of ascariasis in them.
In calf anemia and steat orr hoea are the additionl signs..
6. DIAGNOSIS
1. Clinical signs
2. Examination of feces for the presense of ascaries eggs
3. Postmartem findings in intestine worms of various ages may b found.
4. In case of A,sum examination of the coughed up material to get 4th stage of lara
7. TREATMENT
Cattle and buffalo
1. Piperazine compounds are effective at the dose rate 22omg/kg body weight in
cattle.
2. Pyrantle has good efficacy against immature and adult worms a dose of 250mg
for a calf has given good results
3. Other compound such as levamisole. Febantel.oxfendazole can be used for
treatment but may not expel all the worms.
8. DOGTREATMENT
1. Peprazine adipate at a dose of 100mg/kg is highly effective against adult worms
and at the dose of 200mg/body weight will remove immature worms from
puppies
2. 1 to 2 weeks of age
3. Diethyl carba mazine at a dose of 50mg/kg it is highly effective in aa single dose
against the dog ascarieds
4. Pyrantl 7.5 mg/kg body weight
5. Benzimidazile compounds 10 to 15 mg/kg also used in cat and dogs
