Dr. Derrick L. Campbell, a graduate of Rowan University, authored his first book,
Promoting Positive Racial Teacher-Student Classroom Relationships in January 2008.
Since then, his passions for the education of historically underserved children has
resulted in him developing several alternatives designed eliminate the gap between
student perceptions and teacher intentions.
One alternative is the Eliminate Classroom Racism Program. This program addresses the
negative impact that racial clashes between teachers and students have on the school. The
program equips administrators and teachers to overcome those differences in both racial
and economic values by teaching leadership skills and increasing racial competency.
Another alternative is the Eliminate Classroom Racism Organizational Analysis. During
the analysis, Dr. Campbell evaluates the root cause(s) of teacher student racial tensions
using quantitative methods and qualitative methods. He evaluates the values, attitudes,
and beliefs that contribute to teacher student racial tensions which results in developing a
Systemic Structure to determine best starting point to reduce teacher student racial
tensions. He will also recommend best leadership practices for reducing teacher student
racial tensions.
Finally, Dr. Campbell has developed an Eliminate Classroom Racism Leadership
Seminar. The seminar curriculum emphasizes both a leadership and a racial competency
strand. The leadership strand informs each participant how to facilitate the process step
by step, which includes conducting a scientifically based organizational analysis, team
building, and implementation. The racial competency stand better equips educators to be
effective at eliminating classroom racism.
In the past, Dr. Campbell was the host of a weekly radio talk show titled Culturally
Speaking with Dr. Derrick. The theme of the show was to discuss the solutions to the
cultural challenges in the community, the workplace, and our schools. He has lectured at
various locations throughout the nation to include the NAACP. Dr. Campbell is available
for speaking engagements.
