TELECOMMUTING

           Archana, Donna, Felecia, Paulina
WHAT IS
TELECOMMUTING
      ?
Archana, telecommuter from India
Donna, telecommuter from Israel
 Telecommuting expanded work hours beyond the standard
workweek and increased employer’s work demands
 Telecommuters worked 5 to 7 hours more per week
 Telecommuters are more likely to work overtime
 Employers have more expectations that employees will be available
to work during evenings and weekends; with technology, employees
are expected to do work even when sick or on vacation
VIRTUAL DISCUSSION
 1. Do you believe telecommuting is beneficial? Discuss some of the pro’s and
con’s associated from both an employee and employer point of view.
    2. As a manager, what characteristics or work styles would you look for in an
employee to consider him/her “suitable” for a telecommuter work life?
    3. What are some ways a manager can better regulate telecommuting to
mitigate some of its noted con’s (i.e, increased work/life balance
    conflict, expanded work hours, etc.)?
    4. Does granting some and not others the right to telecommute present room
for conflict, lower morale and motivation or other employee relation issues not
    mentioned?
THANK YOU!
