FAIRFAX COUNTY AREA PROFILE
CHANTILLY–DULLES–
CENTREVILLE
At the crossroads of major highways and adjacent to Washington
Dulles International Airport, this portion of western Fairfax County
is dotted with thriving office parks and is home to major players in
defense, intelligence, homeland security and technology.
The Metro Silver Line is being extended along the Dulles Toll and
Access Roads to the airport to serve an area that has nearly 22
million square feet of office space.
In addition to its wide variety of housing options, Chantilly boasts
the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s Steven F.
Udvar-Hazy Center, with huge hangars that display thousands of
aviation and space artifacts, including the Space Shuttle Discovery.
Located east of the airport and south of the town of Herndon
along both sides of Route 28, this area has welcomed a number of
foreign-owned firms, including the headquarters of Volkswagen
Group of America and Airbus North America.
Westfields, an 1,100-acre campus in Chantilly, is anchored by the
National Reconnaissance Office and major aerospace companies
and is prime space for future development. Centreville, predom-
inantly a residential community, includes a commercial area with
employers such as Carfax and Fulcrum.
