SOP For Progressive Verification
Bet/Win Requirement: $50.00
The overall purpose of verifying a progressive is to have 100% certainty that the
progressive is functioning as desired. To gain 100% certainty, each category must
meet its specific requirements by physically testing each progressive.
Help: Any underlined word within this document will have a definition supplied on the last page. Each category
will have a “Further Examples” section to be used as needed.
I. ExpectedRange Of Increment (EROI)
 Acceptable tolerance: +$.01 to allow for possible remainders from prior play (If your expected
increment is $.25, the EROI would be $.25-$.26)
 Logic/Intent: Know how much increment to expect after the bet/win requirement has been met.
 When: Before or after physical test play and as part of the Progressive Profile verification
(category III).
 Where: At the gaming device.
o Why: Available bet configurations need to be known. Not all machines have the same
available bets. If an exact bet/win of $50.00 is not possible, use the closest possible
bet/win that is still over $50.00 (shown in “Further Examples”).
 How: Multiply the bet/win by the increment rate. Increment rates are normally expressed as
percentages, but need to be in decimal form when calculating (1%=.01| .1%=.001|
.5%=.005|.25%=.0025| .333%=.00333). Example: 50.00(minimum)*.005(assuming a .5% rate for
example purposes)= $.25 increment (TRY IT!!)
 Issues addressed:Possible remainder involved with machines that may have been in play before
the testing took place.
 Layman’s Terms: If you know how much money should be on the meter before you make your
bets, it will be easier to quickly identify an issue. If you expect there to be $.25-$.26 added to the
amount that was recorded on the meter before you play, and a different amount appears, you must
research the possibilities that would cause the difference. Just because there is a difference, does
not mean that the progressive has malfunctioned, it could mean that the progressive has a unique
structure, which needs to be identified.
Further Examples
1. Assumptions: $50.75 bet/win ($50.00 is not possible based on bet configurations),
increment rate is .25% (.0025)
 50.75*.0025=$0.126875 or between $.12 and $.13, with $.12 being the lowest
possible.
 Add $.01 to your results to identify the EROI
 EROI= $.12-$.13
2. Assumptions: $50.30 bet/win, and the progressive consists of 3 levels. The increment
rates are 1.00% (.01), .333% (.00333), and .1% (.001)
 First level 50.30*.01=$.503 or between $.50 and $.51, with $.50 being the
lowest.
 Add $.01 to identify EROI
 EROI= $.50-$.51
 Second level 50.30*.00333=$.167499 or between $.16 and $.17, with $.16
being the lowest possible.
 Add $.01 to identify EROI
 EROI=$.16-$.17
 Third level 50.30*.001=$.0503 or between $.05 and $.06, with $.05 being
the lowest possible.
 Add $.01 to identify EROI
 EROI=$.05-$.06
II. Solving For Increment Rate
 Acceptable tolerance: ±.04%
 Logic/Intent: Unbiased method for verifying set increment rates using raw data that can be later
proven by researching the intended values (checks and balances).
 When: After recording all values (starting meter, final meter,bet/win amount).
 Where: No constraints.
 How: Using whole numbers, divide the amount of times the meter incremented by the
accumulated bet/win. Example: ($.25 increment, $50.00 bet/win) 25/50= .5%
 Layman’s Terms: Record your starting meter before anything else. Keep accurate track of how
much you are betting/winning to use as your accumulated bet. It does not matter what your
individual bets are, as long as they add together to the intended accumulated bet/win. If the
progressive uses wins as its source for increment, keep VERY accurate notes of how much you
win each time, until they all add together to be at least $50.00. After your minimum bet/win
amount has been reached, record the final meter. The difference between the starting meter and
the final meter equals the amount of times that the meter incremented. This will help avoid
confusion when dealing with dollars/cents/percentages/decimals. Take this number and divide it
by your accumulated bet and you will get your increment rate already stated as a percentage. (25
(number of times the meter incremented)/50(or whichever amount you recorded as your
bet/win)=.5%) When input into a calculator, this is what to expect: 25/50=.5
Further Examples
1. Assumptions: Starting meter is $1,205.36, final meter is 1,205.53, $50.75 bet/win
($50.00 is not possible based on bet configurations)
 $1,205.53-$1,205.36= $.17 (the meter incremented 17 times)
 17/50.75=.33497536945% or .335%
 The increment rate for this example was .333%, which is .002% under the
amount solved for above, but still well within the acceptable tolerance.
2. Assumptions: $51.50 bet/win
 First level: Starting meter is $23,201.99, final meter is $23,202.04
 5/51.50=.09708737% or .097%
 Increment rate was .1%, which means the tolerance was .003%
 Second level: Starting meter is $155.22, final meter is $155.46
 24/51.50=.4660194% or .466%
 Increment rate was .45%, which means the tolerance was .016%
 Third level: Starting meter is $11.51, final meter is $12.29
 78/51.50=1.51456% or 1.515%
 Increment rate was 1.50%, which means the tolerance was .015%
III. Progressive Profile
 Acceptable tolerance: None.
 Logic/Intent: Verify that the viewable qualities of the progressive, at machine level, reflect the
desired setup.
 When: After all testing is complete, but before it is released for public play.
 Where: At the gaming device.
 How: Use all information available about the progressive structure to make an educated
determination that it is behaving as desired.
 Required materials: EROI determination; completed progressive verification form; any available
setup information (increment rates, seed values, overall contribution, PAR sheet, etc.)
 What to look for: Outliers. Characteristics that are not easily explainable.
 What to do if a problem is encountered: Verify settings for accuracy; investigate/gather additional
information from the machine and/or manufacturer regarding specific progressive characteristics;
consult with qualified personnel.
 What to remember/consider: Not all progressives function in the same way,so understand the
system and structure that you are working on.
 Layman’s Terms: One of the best tools for understanding exactly what is going on with a
progressive is to take a step back, use the information that you’ve collected to this point, and look
to see if anything seems questionable. The point is 100% confidence that it is functioning
properly when you release the game for play, so if you aren’t 100% confident after following
these steps, start asking questions and verifying anything that you can possibly verify. Never
assume ANYTHING,and never walk away less than 100% certain.
Definitions
Bet/Win: A bet is a wager which causes a game to be played (referred to as coin-in). A win is the
amount, in credits, returned to the player after a game has ended (some progressives use this as its source
for funding).
Final Meter: The amount shown on the progressive display, stated in dollars, after all of your bets have
been made.
Increment: Progressive meters typically progress $.01 at a time. So for these purposes, increment is how
many times $.01 was added to the progressive display.
Increment Rate: The rate at which a progressive increments, usually stated as a percentage.
Layman’s Terms: Stated in a simpler fashion.
Logic/Intent: Logic is the system or principles of reasoning applicable to any branch of knowledge or
study. Intent can be considered the design or desired outcome.
Outlier: An observation that is well outside of the expected range of values.
Overall Contribution: Increment rate+seed value. This number, if not already included (found in PAR
sheet),will directly affect the hold of the game.
Remainder: For these purposes, the remainder is the amount that cannot be seen or researched, stored by
the progressive system if the increment rate is not set to an even/whole percentage. For instance, if the
increment rate is .5%, the progressive will theoretically progress by one-half of $.01 every time $1.00 is
bet/won. Since the meter progresses by a minimum of $.01 at a time, the machine needs to keep track of
anything less than $.01, and apply it to future bets/wins.
Seed Value: The amount, expressed as a percentage, that comprises the base/reset value, used to
determine the total affect on the hold, each time the progressive is won and reset to its base value.
Starting Meter: The amount shown on the progressive display, stated in dollars, before any of your bets
have been made.
Tolerance: The range of acceptable values.
