1. To whom it may concern:
I would love an opportunity to have a meaningful career at a diligent manufacturing company
and be able to make a very significant difference in people’s lives, not only to the customer
but also to the people I work with. My core values are simply honesty, integrity, and respect.
I also believe in life long learning and as such, I welcome opportunities to extend my
knowledge to others as well as to have others convey their knowledge to me.
I have a great capacity and passion for mechanical design, and I have enjoyed a progressively
responsible career since my inception to the engineering field. I possess a diverse background
in the field of mechanical design, drafting, and documentation with a variety of working
knowledge about production, machining, fabrication, safety, and effective communication
between entities of the company.
I am very detail oriented in my work habits and have been since my very first job as an entry
level draftsman at a company called CODAR Technology. CODAR made custom ruggedized
computer systems for military applications and as such, my training there was to a very strict
and high ethical standard for engineering, design, drafting, and documentation control. The
training I embraced there has paid dividends for other company’s I have worked for since.
My creativity, independence, skills, and experience give me greater perceptions to not only
know what to look for when designing and reviewing something, but also to ask questions
like “what if” and to ultimately make suggestions for improvements. This of course can
result in greater productivity and improvements in many areas of business, which I have
accomplished in the past.
Tools are a big part of every mechanical designer’s handbag these days and my most favorite
one to use is SolidWorks. Since my introduction to this program in January of 2009 at Red
Rocks Community College, (where I received my 2 year certificate with a 4.0 GPA) I have
really come to admire and respect the thought that has been giving to the versatilities that the
program has to offer. I use to use AutoCAD 2D for doing design work and SW excels in
every way.
I am familiar with many aspects of the program from the basics of part creation, assemblies,
and drawings to other advanced add-ins such as: sheet metal, routing, COSMOSWorks for
FEA, and rendering. Other knowledge includes; design libraries, templates, interference
detection, part properties for BOM’s, and good design intent knowledge for symmetry as
well as for future changes. The latest version of SolidWorks that I have used was 2014
Premium during my time at Vehicle Projects. My knowledge is excellent as well as my
aptitude to learn new add-ins within the program should the need arise.
My work history (though mostly contractual) will show that I am eager to learn new things,
and I am willing to take on projects with an unrelenting determination to get the job done
right while at the same time be able to shift priorities should the need arise.
I welcome the opportunity to meet with you for an in-depth discussion and meet you in
person at a suitable time.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Donald Althouse
