Most businesses dig in and hopefully hold
on in tough economic times, like we’re
all experiencing today. Barrier Island Marine
chooses to be respectful of the times, but push
forward, supporting local tournaments and
charities, hoping that it will pay off in the
future when times are brighter for everyone.
“We’ve got this great new showroom that
cars drive by every day. We’ve got to use this
time and this place, and be as smart as we can,”
says Scott Chapman, owner of Barrier Island
Marine. Barrier Island Marine moved to the
Renken Boat Center on Savannah Highway
back in November of last year. Their second
location is in Beaufort, formerly Beaufort
Boathouse.
Just this year, Barrier Island Marine has
exhibited in two boat shows, supported three
tournaments and two golf tournaments.
Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation’s
latest study revealed a whopping 8.4 million
anglers do not currently own a boat, but say
they’re considering buying one. Barrier Island
Marine believes that in order to sell boats to
those anglers, they have to fish, participate in
tournaments, know how to talk fishing and
boating, and keep supporting the sport.
They recognize that these tournaments need
to continue and in order to do that, the
tournaments have to receive support from
sponsors like themselves. Their hope is that
giving to these tournaments and their charities
will 1) help the tournaments stay alive and
continue with their missions, but 2) will
help the tournament participants realize that
Barrier Island is here to stay and be a part of
the community.
The dealership sells Regulator, Pioneer,
Maverick, Pathfinder, Hewes, and Chris
Craft. They also have a pre-owned program.
Pioneer is one line that has really been a
great selling boat for Barrier Island Marine
in Charleston and in their Beaufort location.
The extensive boat building experience of
Owners Roy McSwain and Mike Holmes
and their insistence upon the highest quality
materials and workmanship has helped earned
them a reputation for providing unmatched
building excellence. Roy and Mike work
hands on with architects during the design
phase and are at work in the warehouse every
day to insure every Pioneer Boat meets their
stringent standards of excellence. They offer
center consoles, fish and ski, or bay boats.
When customers are looking at boats, Pioneer
seems to really appeal to them – their look,
especially their price, and the fact that they are
built locally – just in Walterboro. Those are all
factors that are getting the boat line noticed.
Barrier Island also knows that selling a boat
is the easy part. You’ve got to continue that
relationship with your client. That’s why they
have the best of the best when it comes to
service and electronics. They are a Full Line
Yamaha Outboard Dealer. You can have your
Yamaha serviced by a Yamaha Master Tech,
which offers the best service available in the
industry. They are also nationally certified by
the National Marine Electronics Association,
American Boat & Yacht Council, Garmin &
Ray Marine. Customer Service is key to their
success.
The dealership stays on top of every aspect
of social media by updating their Facebook
Barrier Island Marine – Part of the Community
status often with boat deliveries, customers
enjoying their boats, and participating in boat
shows and tournaments. Also, they strive to
keep their customers and prospects informed
with monthly E-blasts, announcing specials
and upcoming events, and it is constantly
striving to grow its list of addresses. “It’s all
about maintaining a line of communication
with customers and potential customers,”says
Chapman.
So, no heads in the sand at Barrier Island
Marine. They’re full speed ahead!
