“I pledge to continue my pursuit of academic excellence, to demonstrate leadership in advancing
the rights of individuals with disabilities, to serve as a role model for other students with
disabilities, to advocate for myself and for other individuals with disabilities, and to assist with
education events through my active participation in Delta Alpha Pi Honor Society.”
I will continue to pursue my degree with academic excellence, respect for others and honesty. I
would like to help other adults, who are disabled and in situations like mine. Anything is
possible, and any goal can be reached if you are hardworking and dedicated. I would love to
serve and help others with disabilities, so they too can reach the stars and become a productive,
active leader in society and serve as an advocate, whenever and where ever possible. I promise
to be committed to an atmosphere that accepts, acknowledges and values diversity in all aspects.
I promise to encourage self-advocacy and self-determination along with hard work and
dedication. I will always use myself as an example with pride, to prove it can be done and
encourage others. I will never use negative categorizing associated with disability; specifically
that of students with disabilities, who may be reluctant to identify themselves publicly. I will
always encourage and respect those students with disabilities who come forward to share their
stories about their disabilities, success and failures because that is what only makes us stronger. I
promise to always inspire others, which positively impact them and their lives.
Sincerely,
Debra Ann Harris
