What a whirlwind of a week it has been so far, the start of the most stylish month on the fashion calendar has
not failed to disappoint. The crème de la crème of fashions literati and A-list power players have flocked to the
busy streets of New York all in search of the most coveted items and trends for SS15. For the time being we can
shake off those forthcoming autumn/winter blues and instead focus on the abundance of fresh, bold and
colourful pieces we have to look forward to next spring. Just for you La Vida readers, here is a roundup of the
style showcased so far.
Arrivals and Returns
NYFW has bear witness to both the arrival of a British fashion Icon, Gareth Pugh, after six years showing in
Paris, and the return of 90’s pop punk, No Doubt front woman, Gwen Stefani with her fashion line LAMB.
Pugh’s immersive live performance left his audience spellbound, stunned and craving more, whilst Gwen’s
three year hiatus brought forth the concept of the “New Nomad” remaining true to her cool, edgy aesthetic.

From the start, the runways were awash with clean, sharp and crisp whites, which brought a sense of purity and
simplicity to the presentations. Adding an interesting dichotomy to the preceding’s was the use of light and
dark with the inclusion of black to the collections, a colour not synonymous with the relaxing, cheerful nature of
spring.

No stranger to the runway, prints are swiftly becoming a staple of many designer collections. So far, NYFW
SS15 has treated us to a plethora of prints, some were expected, whilst others added a new dimension to
patterned apparel. From stripes and checks, to floral, tribal and geometric prints, our eyes have feasted on a
kaleidoscope of artistic creation, sure to leave our imaginations running wild.

Whisking us away into a dream-like state, designers including Monique Lhullier, BCBG Max Azria and
Zimmerman sent soft, romantic and ethereal garments cascading down the runway. The collections
incorporated intricate lace detailing, soft, icy pastel shades and layers that effortlessly flowed like a warm
summer breeze.

Androgyny: Tailoring and Sportswear
Blurring the lines between masculinity and femininity, tailored looks took on a more streamlined persona, with
narrow shoulders, cinched waistbands and a-symmetric detailing. Perhaps the most interesting and fun
interpretation of androgyny was from Nonoo who sent a male down the catwalk complete in female attire.
Sportswear inspired separates are set to continue their reign as seen in collections from Antonio Azzuolo,
Adam Selman and Alexander Wang, who was inspired by American sneakers. This laid-back attitude to
womenswear is sure to win the respect of every street wear enthusiast across the globe.

Amidst all of the colours and stark whites that have burst onto the runway so far, a more subtle palette of
neutrals has also commanded attention. Khaki green and camel have been infused with leather detailing, belts
and rope material, which is sure to take us back to our roots or beckon our need for exploration.
