Theory of Balance
Lou Holtz once said,” Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you
respond to it”, from a philosophical view, the law of causality would align perfectly with such a
quote. I would describe life as a simple anomaly, in the sense that it is dependent upon two
uncontrolled variables, patience and progression. Initially, one could say that the concept of
both nouns contradict one another in a way that is mildly unexplainable. The capacity to accept
or tolerate delay without getting angry or upset would most notably be described as Patience,
while the movement or development toward a destination would be categorized as
Progression. One requires a strong show of discipline in the area of personal composure, while
the other requires daily consistency despite the inevitable rise of both expected and
unexpected distractions. If we assume for a moment, that these two uncontrolled variables are
truly the keys necessary in order to effectively understand the anomaly known as life, we would
have to identify Emotionalism as the controlled variable which opposes the furthering of our
existence. Emotions are used to identify a state of feeling, and with classification comes
indication, a sense in which our mental state naturally deems change as a necessity. They say
that a fishermen can always spot another fishermen from a far, but despite all humans having
emotions, individually we lack the certainty to measure the predictability of one’s reactions.
From an objective stand-point, it could be argued that this theory is fundamentally flawed, and
the essential aspect of it all amounts to a simple equalizer. Though we all are enabled, it’s
almost inevitable that only a minority of the human race will achieve the divine state of
Balance.
