Accordingto the annual salarysurveyfromDawnEllmore Employment,aleadingintellectual
property(IP) andlegal recruitmentagency,salariesinthisspecialistsectorhave beenrisingsteadily,
and the latestfiguresshownosignof thisslowingdown.
The specialistrecruitmentfirmworkswithavarietyof intellectual propertycandidatesacrossthe UK
to provide acomprehensive overviewof 2018 payrates.
Theyfoundfullyqualifiedpatentattorneys,withone tofouryears’postqualificationexperience
(P.Q.E.) cannowexpectto receive upto£84,000 a year,qualifiedtrade markattorneyswithupto
fouryears’PQE can receive upto £73,000 and newlyqualifiedintellectual property solicitorshave
seentheirsalariesrise fromanupperlimitof £60,000 to £62,000 perannum.
In additiontothis,graduate trainee rateshave beenrisingsteadily,andnow standata toprate of
£34,000 perannum.
The research,whichlooksat paygrades across the sectorand includessalaryrangesforpatentand
trademarkattorneys,IPsolicitors,technical supportstaff andspecialistsecretarial,administration
and office supportstaff,foundthose livingoutside of the capital were seeingsome of the biggest
salaryincreases.
Juniorpositionswere betterrewardedregionallytoo.Office juniorandschool leaverrole salaries
rose from an average of between£15,000 and £18,000 in2017 to an expected£16,500 to £19,000
range thisyear.
Speakingaboutthe findings,DawnEllmore Employmentfounderanddirector,DawnEllmore,said
theyrepresentedgrowingdemandforexpertise acrossthe sector,bothinandoutside of London.
