Quality Training
David Webb MNZATD
FRONZ Conference 2015
What will you get out of this
session?
Activity
When I say go:
1. Hold your arms vertically up above your
head
2. Move your hands so they are 8 inches apart
3. Turn to the person next to you and
compare your measurement with theirs
Go!
Assessment is
Fair
An assessment system must not
disadvantage or discriminate
Flexible
Ensures each learner’s assessment is:
• ‘done with’
not
• ‘done to’
Reliable
The assessment is interpreted and applied
consistently:
• from person to person
and
• from context to context
Valid
A valid assessment will assess what it claims
to assess.
A Prostrate check
– checks the prostrate!

Evidence is
Authentic
It must be authentic through:
• direct observation of skills and knowledge
by the assessor
• attestations from others
There are various types of evidence:
• photos
• video clips
• log books
Current evidence - case study
GCVR Guard
Evidence may be collected on the job…
First group
We ran training trains for certification process
Second group
Completed a log book working supervised with
qualified Guards on trains
Sufficient
How much is enough?
x 1?
x 6?
x 3?
Valid
Consistent judgement for all evidence:
• now
• in the future – audit anybody?
Feedback
The assessment process it must allow for
feedback…
