Creative Arts Theater

Member of a creative team that administrates, designs, and produces programming for an
award winning professional touring children's theater company. Involved in all aspects of
production, from brainstorming concepts and original ideas, to writing, building, hiring, and
performing. Also responsible for producing a variety of city-wide events, such as festivals,
parades, concerts, and school field trips.
Experience stemming from involvement with Creative Arts Theater is as follows.
ADMINISTRATIVE
Instrumental in the planning of city-wide events and festivals, and hiring of vendors
as well as artistic and technical support. Supervise staff and personnel to facilitate
operations of events and shows; new and in repertoire. Design and oversee set up of
lighting and sound systems for theatrical productions and outdoor events. Coordinate
the promotion and scheduling of touring productions and special events.
WRITING AND DEVELOPMENT
Many original storylines, scripts or adapted scripts from children’s literature; most
with original music and lyrics.* Proposals for new programming, budgets, and design
specifications on a variety of projects. Evaluations and follow up summary of events
and performances. Directed and choreographed numerous productions for puppets
and live actors. Taught workshops on puppet construction techniques and perform-
ance to children and adults. Member of Puppeteers of America. Layout, design and
execute the company’s quarterly newsletter; “The C.A.T.’s Meow” .
PERFORMANCE
Proficient in a variety of styles of puppetry, including traditional hand, rod, hand and
rod, bun raku, large body, shadow, and mouth puppets. Experienced in a wide range
of characters and voices (children, adults, animals, monsters, inanimate objects, and
fantasy) utilized in recorded soundtracks, live shows, and storytelling. Performed in
over 50 different puppet and live mixed media productions touring schools, libraries,
recreation centers and festivals, as well as local and regional theaters throughout
Florida and out of state.
*SONGWRITING AND LYRICS
Have written/composed more than 100 Original Songs, music and lyrics over my 25
years with Creative Arts Theater. Most have been created for the Childrens Theater,
therefore reflecting the material for the Folk and Fairy Tales, which is the majority of
our touring productions. But, my work with the Dreamers Against Drugs program
required songs and music more relevant to young adult and teen issues, so it reflects
somewhat of a more ‘pop’ radio sound and a wide variety of musical genres. Most

CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN
Puppets - bun raku, hand puppets, rod puppets, large body puppets, and shadow
puppets (solid and jointed).
Props and Costumes - puppet, life-size, and oversized scales.
Scenery - self standing, supported, hanging, hinged, and swinging scenery sets
and pieces for children, adults, hand puppet, and bun raku stages.
Mediums - foam rubber, liquid latex, styrofoam, plaster cast, clay, paper, cardboard,
plastic, celluclay, cheesecloth & gesso, fabric, wood, foam-core board,
erosion cloth and sculpt or coat.

Dreamers Against Drugs
City of Tampa Recreation Department, Tampa FL
Conceived, wrote, and composed original music and lyrics for this award winning substance
abuse prevention program. Supervised all aspects of the production including; hiring of
assistant directors, choreographer, musicians, and young performers, as well as planning
budget, rehearsal, and touring schedules.
This was an 8 – 10 week annual summer touring program working with teens, cast for that
season, to create and write an original musical focused on teen issues and the dangers of
substance abuse. I have many original scripts with soundtracks and songs - music/lyrics,
presented in a variety of unique and entertaining formats promoting awareness of such
topics as peer pressure and the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse.

One of three founding members of a production company which created an original musical
for young audiences promoting awareness of the natural habitats and endangered species
native to Florida.
