2. LEADER’S WELCOME
Labour under my leadership and that of my predecessor achieved great
things. Under Glenda Bercow we managed to vote down an unfair Trade
Unions Act, end the Miner's Strike and begin the admirable work with
the Middle East Peace Deal. Under my leadership we have protected
women, their maternity leave and secured their positions and rights in
the workplace. We passed the Labour budget which secures more
spending on education and healthcare, gave fair benefits to the
deserving, war pensions and war widows' pensions have increased, we
have secured the building of 341 new schools and the employment of
4000 more teachers. We have also put forward our policy on stopping
the dreadful events occurring at the IRA's hands and we are serious
about ending terrorism. Under my leadership we are ending the days of
the rich dictating to the poor, we have cut the wages of all Members of
Parliament by 10%, the Opposition planned an increase of 10%!
My leadership is seen as tough but fair and I feel this is exactly what the
United Kingdom needs. Labour debate and discuss openly, we do not
hide our plans behind closed doors and we do not fear being honest
with the citizens of this great nation. The Labour cabinet is dedicated,
has the working class in their hearts and will never stop in making life
better for everyone. This courageous campaign is something I support
with every fibre of my being.
