10. Spiritual Significance of
Shravan Month
Shravan is a very special and particular month for Hindus. There are
various important festivals that take place during the month of Shravan.
In addition, Shravan is the month of Shiva. The whole month is an
occasion for the celebration of Shiva devotees. The days of Shravan on
Mondays are more important, in the Hindu calendar. All temples of Shiva
are mostly visited by devotees from across the world during this month.
A lot of people observe a fast for the entire month or can say follow a
strict vegetarian diet. There are those who observe a fast on Mondays to
honor Lord Shiva or on Tuesdays to honor Mata Parvati. It is believed that
women looking for an ideal husband should fast on Mondays during
Shravan. Mata Parvati did this too before she could impress Shiva.
11. According to an ancient tradition that observing a fast on a Monday, in
Shravan, is believed to bring prosperity to the world. Also, it is believed
to be Lord Shiva's favorite day. When a person observes the fast they
will be blessed with the joy of the world and their wishes are fulfilled.
Offering fruits and money during this time at any Jyotirlinga is believed
to be beneficial.
If we think scientifically the fasting can make a lot of sense. Shravan
can be described as the month in which the monsoon is at its highest. At
this time the digestive system gets fragile and the number of microbes
increase in the surrounding. Poor eating habits can cause illnesses,
which is why it's recommended to fast during this time.
