Long Branch Tributary at Long Branch Falls ParkFairfax County
The Long Branch Tributary at Long Branch Falls Park project restored approximately 670 linear feet of stream within the Accotink Creek watershed. The stream channel was enhanced and stabilized using natural channel design elements. Existing erosion damage was repaired and future water quality has been improved. The project included channel realignment, in-stream rock structures, log structures, constructed wetlands, wood habitat clusters, deer exclusion fence, removal of invasive plants and the re-establishment of the riparian buffer with native species.

Nature’s Neighborhood

Project Description: Develop a 4 acre site within the heart of the zoo to be a hands on
exhibit for children with a strong educational component. Construction included
renovations and an addition to a portion of the Museum of Science building as well as
the construction of a food service/retail building, an animal holding building, a
performance stage/amphitheater, a climbing wall, and an interactive stream. This
project incorporated many “green” construction techniques including construction waste
recycling of over 90%, recycled plastic shingles, compressed straw structural building
panels, green roof, and much more

Tembo Trail

Project Description: This project was a multi-phased project to build a new elephant
facility to manage a male (bull) elephant, and a group of female (cow) elephants while
keeping the existing herd on-site and on exhibit. Project also included major
renovations to the existing hippoquarium that included a bridge over the existing exhibit,
and renovations to the office and restroom facilities attached to the project.

Project Description: This Project is a state of the art penguin exhibit with an animal
holding building that has a façade to replicate the WPA era aquarium. Project includes

Croc Exhibit/Wild Walkabout

Project Description: Project consists of several separate projects with the $850,000
renovation of the tropical atrium in the historic reptile house to accommodate a 17.5’
saltwater crocodile. As the project manager, I also was responsible for the logistics of
transporting the crocodile from the airport to the exhibit and unloading the crocodile into
the exhibit. Other exhibits that were created as part of this project were a wallaby walk
thru exhibit, and renovations to the crane yard to convert for dingos. Also, renovations
and upgrades to signage and other themed elements for a campus wide “walk-about”

Aquarium Project

Project Description: Scope consists extensive renovations to convert the zoo’s WPA
era aquarium into a state of the art aquarium. Renovations include complete restoration
