2. International Water Theme Park for Darwin
• The Top End's tropical climate is very well suited for water attractions, popular with
both locals and visitors.
• In August 2017, the NT Government engaged Pico Play to complete a detailed
business case for the Darwin Water Theme Park.
• The NT Government will shortly consider the detailed business case and decide
whether to approach the market to facilitate private sector development of the
project.

3. Tiwi Islands – Australia’s Next Island
Destination
• The Tiwi Islands with its virtually untouched landscapes and waterways, vast array of
wildlife, ancient traditional culture and distinctive art style, is an ideal location for tourism
investment.
• Made up of two large but relatively undeveloped islands, the Tiwi Islands offer a range of
tourism experiences, all within easy access of Darwin by plane or ferry.
• The Northern Territory Land Development Corporation, in partnership with the Tiwi Land
Council has recently completed a full analysis of site options and development styles for
two tourism developments.

Alice Springs Mixed Use Development
Opportunity
• With visitation consistently increasing over the past three years to Alice Springs, the
Northern Territory Government is now seeking the development and operation of a
new and unique mixed-use tourism commercial offering in Alice Springs to meet future
predicted demand.
• The project will deliver accommodation and tourism products to build on existing Alice
Springs tourism offerings while displaying a point of difference.
• Northern Territory Government is currently undertaking prefeasibility studies for the
project with a view to approaching the market to seek private sector investment for this
exciting opportunity.

Aviation: NT's Push for Direct China
Service Gains Momentum
• Work to secure direct services from China into Darwin has taken some important steps
forward with senior executives from two Chinese carriers recently visiting Darwin.
• Both Darwin's international airport facilities and the destination's attractiveness for
Chinese travellers were rated very highly by both airlines.
• Based on data from a range of sources, the Northern Territory continues to perform
well with international visitation.

• International tourism arrivals for the year ending June 2017 increased 8.2%, slightly
below the national result.
• Visitor spend jumped 16% for the same period. Holiday visitors from Greater China
jumped 81% which is equivalent to an additional 7,000 holiday visitors.

rates for the year ending October
2017 were higher compared to
October last year, up 3.3 percentage
