Dear Selection Committee:
I am a P.O.S.T. Certified, Senior Police Officer for the City and County of Denver, Colorado.
I am currently looking for a new career opportunity where I can use my interests and abilities in the
areas of security, investigations, interviewing, surveillance, and knowledge of criminal law. I have
identified your organization as the productive environment I am seeking. My background includes:
Surveillance, Investigation, Documentation – Throughout my career, I have been involved in
successful undercover surveillance operations for narcotics, fraud, and gang activity. In addition, I
have investigated all types of felony and misdemeanor crimes. I am proud of my record of thorough
interviews and interrogations on arrests; creation of comprehensive reports; and the fact that the
result has been an exceptional conviction rate at trial.
Leadership, Collaboration, Dedication – I have been flexible and willing to take on positions
of leadership—from training new recruits, to assuming an Acting Sergeant role, to being a Team
Leader in specialized units. I also collaborate with multiple federal, state, and local crime and drug
enforcement agencies to deliver the best possible results for the community. In addition, I have
knowledge and a working relationship with Homeland Security. I believe in maintaining the highest
level of professionalism, commitment, honesty, integrity, safety, ethics, and dedication to the city
and those whom I serve.
Regulations, Anti-Terrorism, Training, Gaming Industry – I am constantly aware of rules
and regulations and their relationship to security and crime prevention. Prior to my years in law
enforcement, I worked in the gaming industry for five years. There I was a blackjack dealer,
blackjack instructor, and pit floor supervisor. In my current work as a Police Officer, I keep current
on techniques and information via continuing education courses (e.g. Anti-Terrorism—Managing
Civil Actions in Threat Situations, WMD Response, Interview and Investigation Skills, Report
Writing Skills, and Colorado Law).
After your review of my attached resume, I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you to
discuss how my background would strengthen your organization. Thank you for taking the time to
consider my application.
Sincerely,
Darren Hicks
