european medal for College
bodybuilding champ
One of Britain's top bodybuilding champions,
who's also working towards a Diploma in Sports
Therapy, Massage and Personal Training at the
College, picked up a European Silver medal for
his talent last week.
Darren Gumbs, who's already received
significant international recognition in the field,
came second place in Europe's most prestigious
junior bodybuilding competition in Poland. The
twenty-year-old student, originally from the
Caribbean, walked away with the European
Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation's (EBFF)
junior sliver medal on Sunday 12th June.
Finishing within a few points of the winning
Romanian competitor, the judging was based on
a series of posing routines.

against bullying for
Evening Mail campaign
A 17 year old music student from the College,
who has received significant recognition for her
singing and song writing already, has been
picked by the Evening Mail to record a song for
their anti-bullying campaign.
Talented singer-songwriter Lhamea Lall, who
has overcome bullying herself, has been asked
by the Birmingham newspaper to write and
record a song which will be added to their
website (www.icbirmingham.co.uk) to raise
awareness of bullying. Engineered with the
assistance of tutors in the College recording
studios the song Is entitled Hardest of All (Stand
Up, Speak Out).
The Music National Diploma student, who is an
Ambassador for the Princess of Wales Memorial
Fund for Young People, uses her music to
highlight issues such as bullying, gun crlme. and
drug abuse.
She appeared on Radio 1 last year to publicise
her campaign and talks and performs at anti-
bullying events and schools across the country.
On Monday 18th July, she will speak and
perform at the anti-bullying conference at Stoke
Newington School in North London.

London calling for College student
A College student, who has been awarded the
highest possible result, a first class honours
Degree from the College's Fine Art Degree
programme, has been selected to exhibit her
work at a gallery in London.
Sarah Maurice - Smith, will be exhibiting work at
the Foundry in London between 29th June and
10th July 2005. Sarah's work was chosen after
she applied to participate in the show, that was
looking for work based around unusual
collections or obsessions. Her work consists of a
collection of lolly sticks and lost property and
what these items tell us about other people.
Sarah has also exhibited her work at SolihullArts
Complex, St Paul's gallery in Birmingham and at
the final year Fine Art Degree show at the
College and will be starting an MA in Fine Art at
UCE in the autumn.
