I recently obtained this Lynda Certification on writing a resume and made a slide show about my main takeaways. I would greatly appreciate any feedback that you may have. Thanks!
2. Basic Components of a resume
■ The objective statement gives the reader the reason they
should continue to read.
■ This section should be the reason that you applied to the job.
■ Skills that are listed should also include your aspirational
qualities.

components
■ The job experience selection should include:

4. UpgradingYour Resume
■ Education should be at the bottom of your resume if you have
been out of school for a few years.
■ If you are still in school then put your education after your
experience section with the anticipated/expected date of your
graduation.
■ Check that you have all the correct contact information on
your resume.
5. Layout and Formatting Choices
■ Always put everything in chronological order in each section
of your resume.
■ Need to have software that is resume friendly.

submitting.

8. UsingYour Resume to Get the JobYou

■ Depends on the job you are applying for.
■ If something appears more than once on the job description
then it is highly important.

■ Include additional experience based on competitor’s job
descriptions.
9. Standing Out from the Crowd
■ Use thank you notes to follow up after an interview.
■ This reminds the interviewer ofYOU.
■ Your online profile can set you apart based off of your
creativity and professionalism.
10. Best Practices for Using a Resume
■ Before submitting a resume online, think carefully.
– Quality over quantity
■ Networking does not work…
– Overnight
– If you do not show up
– If you do not speak up
■ Use can use a resume as a follow up to networking.
11. Conducting a Proactive vs. Reactive Job
Search
■ During the job search process remember that you get to
CHOOSE.
– Identify companies and industries

■ Determine your fit in a job based off of your likes and dislikes
from previous experiences.
12. The Bottom-line
