2. What is Social Isolation?
 Social isolation is when an individual lacks contact between themselves and
society
 Social isolation is NOT the same as loneliness, but an individual experiencing
social isolation can develop feelings of loneliness
 Social isolation can affect an age group
 Technology is a cause of social isolation

3. What is Neurosis?
 Neurosis is a mild mental disorder that involves feelings of distress, anxiety,
and compulsive acts.
 Can be caused by technology

 Cellphones
 Laptops
 Headphones
 Television
 Social Media
 Video Games

5. Examples of Social Isolation and
Neurosis
 Texting in the person who is in the same room as you
 Texting to tell the person you are at their house instead of knocking
 Using the internet or cellphone to talk to people instead of in person
 You have to have your technology with you everywhere you go
 You wish you were at home on the internet instead of socializing
 Lack of personal contact
 Lack of verbal skills

6. Pros of Technology: Social Media
 Able to keep in contact with friends, family, and loved ones
 Allows messages to be sent and retrieved immediately
 Easier to communicate with people far away
 Worldwide connectivity
 Advertisment

7. Cons of Technology: Social Media
 Cyberbullying
 Social isolation
 Neurosis
 Identity theft/fraud
 Less time with face to face socialization
 Decrease in communication skills
 Waste of time
