The Format
A major component of the Or-
ganizational Studies Program
is the Summer Session. It is an
intense, challenging, and fun
four weeks. Presenters repre-
sent an extensive range of or-
ganizational expertise, and
share their insights in formats
ranging from workshops to
hands-on exercises to guided
debates to simulations.
The Presenters
As many as 80 professionals —
among them Denison gradu-
ates and Denison parents —
facilitate the daily sessions.
The Denison alumni include
recent graduates, some of
whom are OS alumni just begin-
ning their careers, and more
seasoned graduates, who offer
rich and varied work experienc-
es and networking opportuni-
ties.
The Content
Topics include finance and
investment, organizational
change and development, mar-
keting, advertising and public
relations, leadership and com-
munication in organizations,
organizational ethics, e-
commerce, and the role of per-
sonal values in career develop-
ment.
The Consulting Projects
Students work as consultants
for actual clients. The clients
present the students with real-
world challenges facing con-
temporary organizations. Stu-
dent teams are asked to con-
sider the issues facing their
clients, formulate multiple solu-
tions, develop project books,
and prepare formal presenta-
tions. In the process, team
members test and develop
their skills in negotiation, lead-
ership, and teamwork, and
come to appreciate more fully
the role of individuals and
teams in effective organization-
al functioning.
The On-Site Meetings
Students travel to various cities
to meet on-site with experts in
their fields. This year, travel
includes trips to Los Angeles
and New York City for meetings
with alumni and friends of Den-
ison in both for-profit and not-
for-profit settings.
