9. How
the
World
Golf
Ranking
works
Simply
put,
a
golfer's
(world)
ranking
is
obtained
by
dividing
their
point
total
by
the
number
of
events
they
have
played
(points/events),
which
is
their
average.
Players
are
ranked
according
to
this
metric,
where
a
higher
average
yields
a
higher
rank.
ParCcipaCon
The
rankings
are
based
on
performance
in
the
official
events
held
by
the
most
significant
professional
golf
tours
around
the
world.
The
PGA
Tour,
the
European
Tour,
the
Japan
Golf
Tour,
the
PGA
Tour
of
Australasia,
the
Sunshine
Tour
and
the
Asian
Tour
parLcipate
in
the
rankings.
The
European
Challenge
Tour
and
NaLonwide
Tour,
which
are
the
official
developmental
tours
from
the
European
Tour
and
PGA
Tour,
also
are
included
in
the
rankings,
as
are
the
Canadian
Tour
and
the
OneAsia
Tour.
Points
System
Players
are
awarded
points
based
on
the
posiLon
they
finish
in
the
tournament.
In
the
four
major
championships-‐-‐
the
U.S.
Open,
the
BriLsh
Open,
the
Masters
Tournament
and
the
PGA
Championship-‐-‐the
winner
is
awarded
100
points,
second
place
earns
60,
third
place
earns
40,
and
the
scale
slides
down
to
1.5
points
for
anyone
compleLng
the
final
round.
The
winner
of
the
Players
Championship
earns
80
points.
Winners
of
regular
events
on
the
European
and
PGA
tours
earn
a
minimum
of
24
points.
Winners
on
the
Australasia
and
Japanese
tours
earn
16
points.
The
rankings
are
used
by
the
four
major
tournaments
to
select
the
players
who
automaLcally
qualify.
CalculaCons
The
rankings
are
based
on
performance
over
a
two-‐year
period.
The
ranking
shows
a
player’s
average
points
per
tournament,
his
total
points
earned
divided
by
the
number
of
tournaments
he
has
competed
in.
The
system
places
greater
emphasis
on
performance
over
the
last
13
weeks
of
the
104
weeks
of
the
ranking
period
by
deducLng
a
fracLon
of
points
earned
each
week
longer
than
13
weeks
ago.
A

who
won
a
major
championship
18
months
ago
begins
to
lose
the
value
of
that
accomplishment
in
the
current
rankings.
10. How
the
Columbus
Chinese
Golf
Ranking
will
work
The
Columbus
Chinese
Golf
Ranking
will
follow
a
similar
metric
to
the
World
Ranking.
Event
Ranking
There
will
be
four
official
CCGC
golf
games
this
season,
and
each
of
them
is
assigned
a
ranking
value
(points
awarded
to
winner
of
the
event).
The
following
table
summarizes
the
event
ranking:
Points
System
The
winners’
ranking
points
are
the
same
as
the
ranking
of
the
event.
First
place
player
of
an
event
wins
100
or
80
points
(depending
on
the
event),
second
place
gets
60%
of
this
amount,
40%
for
3rd,
30%
for
4th,
24%
for
5th,
down
to
14%
for
10th,
7%
for
20th,
3.5%
for
40th
to
1.5%
for
60th.
CalculaCons
For
simplisLc
reason,
the
Columbus
Chinese
Golf
Ranking
will
not
follow
the
calculaLon
rules
of
the
World
ranking,
which
reduce
ranking
points
awarded
to
players
from
events
that
are
more
than
13
weeks
old
in
equal
weekly
increments
over
the
remainder
of
a
two-‐year
period.
Instead,
players
in
the
Columbus
Chinese
Golf
Ranking
will
receive
full
ranking
points
for
all
events
throughout
the
2013
season.
Those
points
will
be
discounted
in
the
2014
season.
Minimum
ParCcipaCon
The
players’
points
from
all
events
will
be
added
together,
and
this
total
will
be
divided
by
the
number
of
events
parLcipated
by
the
players.
However,
a
minimum
parLcipaLon
of
2
events
per
year
is
required.
In
other
words,
denominator
in
calculaLon
has
a
minimum
value
of
2,
and
it
will
increase
by
at
least
2
each
year.
