1. Strategy For A Successful Football Team
Definition of success:
Kids having fun
For Public Schools: Maximum number of kids (future taxpayers) playing
while balancing a reasonable winning season
For a Private School: Maximum number of kids (future donors) playing
while balancing a winning season
Players: Rotate 9 players every 8 plays; rotate an end every down to run in plays or
develop a signaling system and rotate 11 players every 8 Downs
Spread the talent evenly between 3 platoons
Rotating about 33 boys through the game meets the fun objective and more:
1. It is fun as more players play
2. It reduces injuries as it reduces the over-use of a few athletes
3. Players will maximize their effort on every down as they know they have
only 8 downs in a series
Kicking game: Just kicked, block-it and run it back; no funny stuff
Defense: Okie 3-4 Defense, the only defense to support undefeated seasons in high
school, college and NFL; the intuitive nature of this defense accelerates
understanding
Offense: Sprint-Bone, similar to a wishbone but with a single tight slot to provide a
sprint-out pass. With Georgia Tech proving the flexbone concept, the ‘Bone based
offenses can and will dominate as they require little talent at any position, only a
desire to win and quickness.
