1. Abstract : Hair fall a growing problem in
today’s world
We often see ads on the TV while watching any TV shows portraying
beautiful woman with lustrous long hair, saying apply this hair oil or hair
shampoo, or would say about how confident she feels after applying it or
after having a beautiful hair because of it. Usually in case of any product
advertising hair products a girl or a woman is shown which is very common
phenomena and most of the time even though the product can be used by
both a men and women, but in the add, women is only shown. In spite of all
that there are less products available related to hair problems of men
compared to a women. Why men don’t have hair problems? Or is it so that
they are not interested to do anything about it? Or is it so that they really
don’t find solutions to their hair problems? If so then there are Hair
treatment clinics almost in every corner of the place where we live. These
clinics treat the patients having hair related problems and if it is a
multispecialty clinic, it treats many types of problems under one roof. It is a
best place for one to go who is facing such a problem. But there is question
in front of us “Why does it happen and what are the results of being bald.
It can be long and wavy, short and straight, frizzy and unmanageable,
or smooth and shiny. Hair are of many types differing in style or color,
length or textures. Yet just about everyone no matter what kind of hair they
have face hair problem at some point in life.
3. Hair grows on the full human skin except on the palms of our hands
and feet souls, some are so invisibly fine that they're almost invisible to
naked eyes. The average adult head has about 100,000 to 150,000 hairs
and Everyday a normal man losses 50-100hairs daily. There is no cause of
fear if you find those hairs on your hairbrush. Those hairs are replaced:
they grow back in the same follicle on your head. This total of hair loss is
totally common and no cause for worry. If you're losing more than that,
then, something might be wrong which needs to be treated by a doctor. A
doctor can determine why the hair is falling out and suggest a treatment
and will guide you if you are not able to know what's causing it.
At any point of a time, density of hair in scalp area of a person grows
about 90% . Each follicle has its own life cycle that can be disposed by age,
disease, and other factors. As people age, their rate of hair growth slows.
4. 2. Types of hair loss (Alpecia)
There are many types of hair loss, popularly known as alopecia:
Involutional alopecia is a natural condition in which the hair gradually
thins with age and scalp region hair tend to be shorter and after some days
very less.
Androgenic alopecia is a genetic condition that can affect both men and
women. Men who are suffering from this condition, called male pattern
baldness, can begin observing hair loss as teens or early 20s. Women
suffering from this condition, called female pattern baldness, experience a
general thinning in the entire scalp region and mostly losing hair at crown
area. They usually notice thinning at their 40s or later.
Alopecia areata a lot of the time starts suddenly and causes irregular hair
loss in children and young adults. The outcome may result to complete
baldness (alopecia totalis). About 90% of people with this condition, the
hair returns within a few years.
Alopecia universalis causes hair loss of the entire body, including the
eyebrows, eyelashes, and other areas.
In children, frequently found disorder is Trichotillomania, in which a
person pulling his/her own hair.
5. Telogen effluvium known as is hair thinning which is temporary over
the scalp that occurs because of changes in the growth cycle of hair, causing
shedding of hair and also thinning in large number.
3. Understanding Hair Loss -- What Causes Hair
Loss?
Causes of Hair Loss could be Illnesses or medical conditions such as
people suffering with uncontrolled diabetes or other disease related to
thyroid which stops the production of hair resulting to hair loss problem.
People with lupus can also lose hair. The hormone causing imbalance in
polycystic ovary syndrome can cause hair loss in teen girls as well as adult
women.
Medicines prescribed by doctors sometimes have hair loss as a side
effect. Medicines that are used to treat acne, bipolar disorder can be side
effects to hair loss problems. Diet pills that contain amphetamines also can
cause hair loss.
Normally, there is growth cycle for our hair. Through the anagen phase,
which lasts two to six years or longer, the hair growth is observed. Through
the telogen phase, which lasts about three months, the hair rests. At the end
of the telogen phase, new hair starts to come after the hair falls out.
Hair loss or Baldness is usually something only adults need to worry
about. Teenagers also lose their hair -it may be a sign that something's
going on. Reasons of baldness or hair loss during adolescence could also be
6. when a person may be sick or just not eating right. Wearing a hairstyle
most like braids that pulls on the hair for a long time or because of hot
combs, people lose their hair. In case of teenagers, many a times hair loss or
hair problem is for the time being and after that problem is corrected the
hair usually grows back. So at such a situation no hair treatment or hair
regrowth is necessary.
Doctors are unknown of the fact that why certain hair follicles are
programmed to have a shorter growth period than others. However, there
are many factors that may influence or lead to hair loss:
• Hormones,(which are hereditary ) such as levels of androgens
which are abnormal
• Genes, from both male and female parents, are the cause to a
person's female or male pattern baldness
• Burns, injuries, and X-rays can be factors for hair loss which is
temporary. In such cases, natural and normal growth of hair usually
returns once the injury heals unless a scar is produced. Then, hair will
never be hair regrowth.
• Cosmetic procedures, such as shampooing too often, perms,
bleaching, and dyeing hair can make hair weak and brittle resulting to
hair thinning.
• Diet. A low-protein diet or calorie-restricted diet can would cause a
temporary hair loss.
