It is my great pleasure to strongly recommend him. I had the opportunity to work with
Claudio Cavaliere during the period when he worked as a research assistant at Delft University
of Technology (the Netherlands) from March to August 2015.
Before addressing the basis for my affirmative recommendation of Claudio Cavaliere, I
would like to provide a brief overview of my own background. After receiving PhD training at
Delft University of Technology between 2009 and 2014, I have been working at the same
university as a research fellow. My research focuses on water or wastewater treatment using
membrane technology and resource recovery from wastewater. I have supervised 3 MSc
students to accomplish their MSc dissertations and 5 intern students within the EU supported
by the Erasmus scholarship.
I supervised Claudio in his activities in the Sanitary Engineering Section, Faculty of Civil
Engineering of the university, where he carried out experimental tests with nanoporous ceramic
membranes. He was involved in activities related with an ongoing project about water and
wastewater treatment and reuse using ceramic membranes. The work consisted in characterize
physical and chemical properties of titanium nanoporous membranes that have been coated
with a special inorganic layer. After literature research on nanofiltration theory and membrane
technology, he performed all tests, conducted chemical and biological analysis of filtered water
and developed graphs to explain the results obtained. During the experiments, he fixed the
parameters to optimize the procedure and solved several problems related to the filtration set-
up. Finally, Claudio helped me and a PhD student in the implementation of wastewater
treatment pilot system in the WWTP of Den Haag. Claudio demonstrated the ability to work
both individually and in team, he followed my instruction, and took initiative by his own to
solve several issues related with the experiments. He knew how to practical solve problems,
how to work and meet deadline, how to present the results of the tests. He was very
enthusiastic about the activities he carried out and about the project itself and showed great
interest in the topic of water and wastewater treatment.
In summary, I highly recommend Claudio Cavaliere for the position. I believe that he will be
