Denis and Neville Austen’s family has played a major
role in the South African safe and security industry
since 1875.
Following in the family tradition, Biltmore Safe
Company was established in Johannesburg in 1991.
While being restrained from manufacturing, the
opportunity arose in 1995 to purchase a safe company
in Cape Town. Since then the company has traded as
National Safe and continues to deliver quality
products and service at competitive prices.
Research and Development
Due to market demand R & D is an on-going procedure
and all efforts are concentrated on improving existing
designs as well as the development of new products.
Maintenance and Servicing
National Safe has a large service and maintenance
network, and can carry out service and installation
work on all brands of safes and security equipment.
We pride ourselves in having the most skilled
technicians in the country, who are available on a 24-
hour basis.

6. CONSTRUCTION OF A DEMOUNTABLE VAULT
The vault consists of a number of interlocking panels which bolt together from the inside
of the vault using high strength bolts. Countersunk bolts are used on the floor panels to
ensure a flush walking surface.
Panels are generally 1 metre wide to facilitate handling.
The overall height of the vault is 2.4 metre, with the length and width dependant on the
customer’s requirements. The vault dimensions are not restricted to any standard sizes
and all units are completely pre-assembled in our factory prior to installation to ensure a
proper fit.

7. GENERAL SPECIFICATION
The vault has met the requirements of the SABS 949-1969 for Category 4. The ‘Cerestra’ barrier
withstands attack from hand tools, including angle grinder and also attack from oxy-acetylene
and oxy-arc apparatus.
The vault has also been tested for fire resistance and here we have obtained a 2 hour rating.
The overall thickness of a panel is 120mm and both the inner and outer faces are plated, and
painted with a high quality primer prior to delivery.
Fittings: Standard fittings are a Category 3 or 4 main door. The door is supplied with a 4 wheel
combination lock and 2 eight lever key locks. A ramp is also supplied.
Optional extras: The vault can be fitted with a Category 3 or 4 emergency door, a grille gate
with up to 3 key locks, and additional combination, or time locks can be fitted to the doors.
WHY A DEMOUNTABLE VAULT
To build a reinforced concrete vault is a costly and lengthy project which normally has to take
place when the initial building is being constructed. This also means that the vault is permanent
and is lost should the need arise to change premises.
By installing a demountable vault, many of these disadvantages are overcome. The cost of a
demountable vault is considerably lower than that of a reinforced concrete one and can be
constructed in a relatively short period of time. Should the need arise to move premises it is
also a simple task to dismantle the vault and reassemble it at the new location.
A demountable vault can be designed to meet the size requirements of the client, with the only
limiting factor being the load per square metre that can be carried by the building floor.
Allowance is made for the provision of ventilation, lighting and any electronic security devices,
should they be required.

Our range of access booths can be customised to suit particular decor and design standards for an
integrated appearance with a clean and elegant facade.
Construction is modular around a sturdy aluminium or steel frame to adapt to any floor layout.
Alternative materials can be offered to suit specific requirements.

Glazing fitted to the booth is according to the level of security from laminated safety glass to
bullet resistant glass.
The standard booth is wheelchair and pram user friendly.

The National booth controller has all the normal features required for the banking industry:

3. BANK OPENS both booths operational. 7. Each booth also gets fitted with Robot door status indicators (red & green)

9. This record room door is multi-purpose, designed to provide excellent fire protection and at
the same time a reasonable degree of resistance to burglary. The frame is of robust angle
section and is provided with four grip lugs for building in.
A high security 7-lever keylock which incorporates numerous anti-picking devices is fitted. A
keyless combination lock can be fitted as an optional extra.

Ventilators are designed with a fine wire gauze screen. The single-ended
pattern is suitable for use in Fire Resisting Strongrooms, whereas the
double-ended pattern is preferable for use of Burglar Resisting
Strongrooms. Double ended ventilators are the telescopic type and
suitable for walls from 150mm to 300mm thick. Larger sizes are made to
order.

10. STRONGROOM DOORS
SABS Specification 949-1997 for Strongroom doors
MODEL NSD-25 CATEGORY ONE
The strongroom door embodies the most up-to-date features that protects the lock and vital
parts. The high security keylock secures four sliding steel bolts at the front edge of the door
with fixed bolts at the back.
MODEL NSD-35 CATEGORY TWO (Light
Duty)
This strongroom door is of heavier construction than the S.25 embodying the most rigidly tested
features including a remote relocking device protecting against explosive and other attacks.
Two locks secure four sliding bolts at the front edge of the door with fixed bolts at the back.
MODEL NSD-45 CATEGORY TWO (Heavy
Duty)
This strongroom door far exceeds the SABS Category Two specifications. A remote re-locking
device is provided to protect against explosive and other attacks. Six sliding steel bolts are
provided at the front edgte with fixed bolts at the back.
MODEL NSD-55 CATEGORY TWO ADM
This strongroom door is specifically designed to give protection against attacks by disc grinders
and explosives. Overall door thickness is in excess of 160mm and locks and other vital parts
are protected by barrier material and solid steel. Two keylocks secure six sliding bolts at the
front edge of the door with fixed bolts at the back. A combination lock can be fitted as an
optional extra.

34. The National Staff Security Door is designed to protect staff and other valuables against armed and other forcible
attack. It is ideally suited to give protection to pay- and cashiers offices where large sums of money are handled.
Doors not recommended for external use for internal use only.
The door is made of 100mm x 50mm steel tubing and is finished in black undercoat.
Door is fitted with a conti roton hinge.
The door panel is 440mm thick and consists of 6mm steel plate and wood laminations
of more than 40mm. Both inside and outside door surfaces are finished in an
attractive sapele or oak veneer, depending on availability, which is clear lacquered. A
500 x 300mm bullet resistant view panel is provided and a pull handle is fitted to both
sides of the door.
The door and frame must be installed as a unit and should also be installed so
that it opens outwards against the attack.
A high security mortice dead lock with latch is fitted and duplicate keys are
obtainable only from the factory. (Other locking can be supplied if required)
A heavy duty Hydraulic Door closer with access control by means of a digital
keypad release or push button release can be fitted optionally.

35. The NATAIR 2 system is an air tube system capable of both sending and receiving carriers. Single direction is also available. The
standard mode of operation is manual.
To send a carrier, open the slide sleeve and insert the carrier into slide sleeve station and press the push button. The carrier is then
immediately sucked or blown along from one end of the tube to the other.
The carrier is moved by the flow of air and reaches a velocity of 5-7 metres per second. Higher speeds are available, by using
larger blowers. As soon as the carrier reaches its destination, the controller automatically turns off the blower. When needed, the
arrival of the carrier can be indicated by means of an acoustical and visual signal. The length of tubing that can be used is virtually
endless and can be mounted indoors as well as outdoors.
If the tube is cut, the system no longer functions as the airflow to move the carrier is no longer available. This consequently offers a
safe, secure and speedy means of moving valuables, money or items from one point to another
There are also many different sizes of tubing available and sizes range from 90mm to 160mm in diameter. The tube and carrier size
depends on what the weight and size of the object is that is to be carried. The standard sizes are 110mm and 160mm diameter.
POINT TO POINT
The standard slide sleeve control panel has a push button and indicating pilot lights to
show when the system is busy sending
or receiving carriers. Many configurations of stations are available. The type depends
on the clients specific requirements. Some of the standard configurations for a point
to point system would be; Slide sleeve to slide sleeve, both sending and receiving.
1. Slide sleeve to slide sleeve, single direction
2. Open end to slide sleeve, single direction
3. Slide sleeve into a safe or secure enclosure, single direction
4. Slide sleeve to treasury station, both directions
MULTI POINT
Where many points are required to be able to send to each other or to a central station, diverters are used to route capsules to and
from the required points.
The carriers are in fact the containers in which the objects are transported. They are made of an impact resistant plastic and fitted with
baring rings made of a soft material. These rings ensure that the movement of the carriers is silent and efficient. The baring rings also
provide and airtight fitting for the carrier in the tubing, thus ensuring an efficient use of airglow and enabling relatively large weights to
be transported.
The carrier can be fitted with screw caps or swivel caps depending on the type of carrier used. Sometimes the choice of carriers is
limited by the diameter of pipe being used. The dimensions of the carrier also determine the diameter of the tubing and the radius of
the bends.

36. National Deposit Safes are designed to provide security against hold-ups and robberies. No tins, pouches
or other containers are required (but may be used), cash and individual single notes may be deposited as
required without waiting to fill separate containers. A non-return device is fitted to the deposit mechanism to

52. SABS Specification 751-1997 Category Four
The overall thickness is 100mm with a special barrier material between the inner and outer
body plates to prevent penetration by hand tools and abrasive disc-grinder attack.
The door has on overall thickness of 190mm with an outer slab of 110mm in thickness with
a special barrier material to prevent penetration by hand tools and abrasive disc- grinder
attack. Heavy sliding steel bolts of 32mm in diameter are provided at the front edge of the
door with fixed bolts at the back. The bottom hinge is provided with a ball-bearing for ease
of operation.
The 90mm drawer trap is accessed from the front of the safe.
The drawer can then be pulled open which allows the
responsible person to deposit cash into the safe. The drawer is
supplied with or without a keylock. The drop drawer has been
tested and approved by the SABS for fishing and strength
Two 7 – lever SABS approved keylocks are provided with keys
in duplicate. A re-locking device protecting the locking
mechanism against explosive, drilling and other forms of attack
is fitted. Other locking options are available such as
combination or digi lock as optional extras

54. SABS Specification 751-1997 Category Five
The overall thickness is 100mm. The inner and outer bodies are electrically welded.
In keeping with modern security practice the toughest barrier material is used between
the inner and outer bodies. This construction is designed to with stand hand tools,
disc-grinders, oxy-acetylene diamond core drill and impact drill
The overall thickness is 180mm incorporating an outer slab of 110mm comprising
material of the highest drill, explosive, disc-grinders, oxy-acetylene and oxy-arc
resistant materials. Heavy steel sliding bolts 32mm in diameter are provided to
protect against a wedge attack on the front edge with fixed bolt at the back. The door
is hung on heavy-duty, steel hinges, both provided with ball-bearings for easy
operation
One 4-wheel combination lock and two 7-lever keylocks are
provided with keys in duplicate. Locks operate multiple
emergency re-locking devices automatically dead locking the
boltwork if a lock is attacked by explosives and other forms of
attack. Other locking options are available as optional extras.

CiTi-Track is a comprehensive range of solutions covering all aspects of Cash Protection, Cash in Transit
and Cash control. CiTi-Track time delay/access controllers are designed specifically for controlling access to
high security areas such as bulk cash centres, vaults, safes and ATM’s. They are highly programmable and
