LAWRENCE,
KANSAS
-‐The
University
of
Kansas’
Rock
Chalk
Revue
is
March
5,
6,
and
7
at
the
Lied
Center.
Rock
Chalk
Revue
is
a
series
of
musicals
put
on
by
various
student
organizations.
Rock
Chalk
Revue
has
been
an
on-‐going
University
of
Kansas
tradition
since
1949.
The
first
show
was
held
in
the
Hoch
Auditorium.
Tickets
were
sold
for
fifty
cents
each
and
the
money
went
to
Young
Men’s
Christian
Association
and
Young
Women’s
Christian
Association.
About
500
people
attended
the
first
show,
according
to
the
Rock
Chalk
Revue
website.
Sixty-‐six
years
later,
Rock
Chalk
Revue
has
grown
to
a
crowd
of
over
2,500
people.
Other
things
have
changed
since
then,
too.
Co-‐ed
groups
were
not
allowed
until
1959.
Now,
five
co-‐ed
student
organizations
are
selected
through
an
audition
process.
Participant
and
lead
in
the
one
of
the
five
shows,
Natalie
Brockmeier,
says
performing
for
a
crowd
that
large
is
“nerve-‐wracking
but
also
exciting,”
“It’s
not
everyday
that
you
get
to
perform
for
a
crowd
like
that,
so
before
every
show
a
new
set
of
adrenaline
sets
on
and
each
time
performing
is
different,”
Brockmeier
said.
This
year,
tickets
are
sold
for
$20
on
Thursday
and
Friday
and
$25
for
Saturday,
which
includes
the
award
ceremony.
All
of
the
money
will
go
to
Big
Brothers
Big
Sisters
of
Douglas
County.
“Rock
Chalk
is
a
mix
of
business
and
philanthropy.
It
shows
Lawrence
the
good
we
can
do,
and
that
we
are
not
just
college
students
but
young
adults,”
said
Hailey
Waldenmeyer,
a
sophomore
at
the
University
of
Kansas.
Rock
Chalk
Revue
is
the
largest
student-‐run
philanthropy
on
campus
and
the
organization
anticipates
it
will
continue
to
grow.
The
65th
show
is
named
“The
Best
Is
Yet
To
Come”
as
a
salute
to
the
future.
“The
crowd
is
definitely
in
for
a
treat,”
Brockmeier
said.
Tickets
for
the
Rock
Chalk
Revue
are
available
at
the
liedcenter.ku.edu
and
also
at
the
Lied
Center
on
West
Campus.
