1 unique opportunity to develop
o your understanding of international co-production
o your project development skills
o your knowledge of European audiovisual market trends
o your network of potential European collaborators
ENGAGE 2012 brings together 24 filmmaking students and graduates (writers, producers
and directors) from different European countries for three residential workshops in Ireland,
Estonia, Finland and Scotland over a six-month period. A collaboration between four of
Europe’s leading screen practice institutions – Screen Academy Scotland at Edinburgh Napier
University (a Skillset Film and Media Academy), National Film School at the Institute of Art,
Design and Technology (IADT) in Ireland, Baltic Film and Media School at Tallinn University
(BFM) and the School of Motion Picture, Television and Production Design at Aalto
University, Helsinki – with support from the MEDIA programme of the European Community,
ENGAGE offers a programme of networking events, pitching sessions, project surgeries and
case studies to help participants gain a better understanding of international co-production
processes and the nature of collaborative project development.
ENGAGE will concentrate on three key areas:
Screenwriting for low-budget, international film and television drama
Development and co-production of fiction, documentary and animation features for
the European market
Production and distribution in the digital age
During the workshops, experts from the host countries share their knowledge and
experience of the international co-production market, offering invaluable input and
feedback on participants’ projects. Detailed case studies focusing on each of the host
countries provide further contextualisation of specific nations’ current audio-visual trends,
highlighting similarities between European countries, potential difficulties and opportunities
for collaboration. To help the projects grow between workshops, additional support is
provided by academic staff from each of the host institutions.
