2. Players
A minimum of eight players per team and
two players per round are required to
participate.
A maximum of twelve Players per team
and three players per round are permitted.
3. Topics in every middle school event
● Life science

● Writing (grammar plus

● World History
● Technology
● Physical education/sports
● Arts and media
4. Two wildcard topics are chosen:
NC current events
NC sports
NC history
NC Native Americans
NC state symbols
NC government
NC geography
NC colleges and university
5. Kick-off:
1. Moderator gives 2 minute warning so teams
can prepare
2. Slide 2 is shown with 12 topics and the round
in which each will occur
3. Any 2 of the wildcard topics could be included
and all 12 topics can come in any order
4. Teams have 12 minutes to group players into

6. Players cannot move between groups and can
participate in only one of the 4 groups.
7. Group A seated, roster in hand ready to
participate before 12 min prep time is over (or
disqualified)
8. Moderator collects rosters gives paper and
answer sheets (provide your own pens/pencils)
9. Play begins
1. Screen shows question for 5 seconds after read aloud
2. This continues until all 12 questions have been read and
displayed.
3. Team has 3 minutes to complete answer sheet.
4. Math round is different. Group gets all questions and has 9
minutes to answer them.
5. Once end of round is called, teams put down their pencils and
answer sheets are collected (be sure has team name on it).
6. Players return to their team and next group of players takes
10. Scoring
1. Each correct answer is worth 1 point
2. Must be accurate and precise
3. Unless essential to the answer, correct spelling
and punctuation are not required
11. Advancement
1. Top team from each region advances to State
Finals
2. Wildcard teams based on highest scores
advance until there are 12 teams.
3. In case of a tie, all teams advance
