3. Time to cut your glass. Take your glass cutter and roll the
diamond cutting head across your glass vertically and
then horizontally creating a grid pattern on your glass.
Next, line the center of the head of your running pliers
up with one of your vertical scores. Apply just enough
pressure to break the glass. Continue breaking out all
your vertical scores.
Finally, repeat this process breaking out all your
horizontal scores leaving you with a pile of squares to
work with.
Step 2: Cut Your Glass
4. Step 2: Cut Your Glass
With your mosaic cutters, nip irregular pieces of glass.
Combining the irregular shaped pieces of glass with
glass beads and glass squares will create a nice
contrast of shapes to cover your base with.
5. Step 3: Glue Your Pieces on Your
Base
It's now time to glue all of your pieces on to
your lovely base. There's no rhyme or reason
here! As this is an abstract design composed
of lovely pieces of stained glass and beads.
Your main focus is to intermix all the lovely
colors of glass so that when the piece is lit,
they all play off of each other.
Enjoy yourself with this project! It's my favorite!
6. Step 4: Grout Your Piece
Now for your final stage of your project, the grouting of
your lovely mosaic hanging light.
Gather your grouting materials which inlcudes your dry
grout, latex additive, mixing bowl and spoon, garden
gloves, sponge, old rags or towels and water.
Mix your dry grout with your latex additive to achieve
the consistency of oily peanut butter.
7. Don't worry if make your mixture too soupy, simply
add some additional dry grout until you achieve the
proper consistency.
Cover the surface of your base with the grout. Then
take your moistened sponge and remove all the
excess grout. Make sure you're near a water source
as you will have to rinse your sponge out
repeatedly.
After you've cleaned it as thoroughly as you can
with your sponge, take old towels or rags and clean
the remaining residue off your glass mosaic pieces
till they sparkle!
8. Light your piece up with battery operated
fairy lights that can be purchased off
Amazon for $1 a strand!
