Aquatic physical therapy provides a low or no impact environment for patients recovering from injury or surgery by reducing the effects of gravity in water, allowing for functional activity with less pain and increased range of motion compared to land-based exercise. The water supports the body, lessens joint stress, and offers resistance and assistance to movement, helping patients see enhanced mobility, strength, and function during the healing process. Patients are often referred for aquatic therapy if they have difficulty exercising on land due to conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia, or injuries to the neck, shoulders, back, knees, or ankles.
