This Scotch Collie-English Shepherd mix, also known as Silverton Bobbie,
earned worldwide celebrity in 1923 when he walked from Indiana to
Oregon—a total distance of 2551 miles—to reconnect with his owner six
months after becoming lost in Indiana while on a family road vacation.
Bobbie was the subject of a silent film in 1924 called The Call of the
West, in which the dog played himself.
