Statement of Support AIG's Veteran Recruiting Initative
1. Statement of Support: AIG’s Veteran Recruiting Initiative
AIG is doing more than just honoring servicemen and women who make the commitment
and sacrifice to protect our country, by evaluating solutions to provide employment
opportunities for military members and veterans. On November 20, the Employer
Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) came to AIG to meet with AIG Life and
Retirement (AIGLR) Executive Vice President and Chief Distribution Officer, Group
Retirement, Shawn Duffy and AIGLR, Group Retirement Human Resources and Talent
Acquisition to examine opportunities for employers to help open doors and introduce a
new way of helping to employ military members and veterans.
A four-point pledge called a Statement of Support (SoS) was signed by Shawn stating
that the employer will recognize and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and
Reemployment Rights Act, provide effective tools to manage employees who serve in the
Guard and Reserve, appreciate the values and skills of Service members and promote
employment opportunities for Guardsmen, Reservists, and Veterans and support our
country’s Service members and their families in peace, crisis and war times.
After Shawn accepted a “challenge coin” to help promote veteran employment
opportunities from the ESGR, he questioned ESGR Regional Director Bill Cyrus “What
are the best employer partners doing, so we know what to strive to accomplish?” And Bill
responded by explaining some of the extraordinary supportive employer programs that
are already in place and working.
AIGLR Talent Acquisition Director, Financial Distributors Recruiting, Tara Ricketts
added, “Forming a partnership with the ESGR is a great first step in reconfirming our
commitment to recruit and employ veteran talent.” And Shawn Duffy is not alone in this
effort, President and Chief Executive Officer, AIG Financial Distributors and Chief
Distribution Officer, AIGLR, Steve Maginn and Executive Vice President and Chief
Distribution Officer, Life Insurance, AIG Financial Distributors, John Deremo will
follow right behind him and sign a SoS giving ear to understanding what the ESGR can
provide and promote employment opportunities in veteran hiring.
The ESGA is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972 to develop and
maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service. The agency aids in increasing
awareness of applicable laws, recognizing support, and resolving conflictive issues
between Service members and employers.
