2. “Two-for-One”
Finally – my race report made it to
your inbox THANKS to
everyone who has followed my
journey to the ColumbiaTriathlon
this spring. Due to weather
conditions the swim got cancelled
in Columbia. As much as I “dislike”
the swim-part of the triathlon, it’s
not quite the same without it.. So
almost the entire team decided to
continue the training and join the
rest of our spring team, who was
going to compete in at Rev3.
It has been an amazing season.
THANKS a million for your support!
May 18th
Columbia, Maryland
Time: 02:59:05
June 15th
Williamsburg, Virginia
Time: 03:40:00
3. Polar Vortex..
We started out with a bitterly cold training season. Having
99°F today it’s difficult to imagine the mornings when we
had to fight the snow and ice on the trails...
Layers and more layers. Two pairs of gloves and still
freezing
4. Open Water Swim
We practiced a few open
water swims this season –
oooohhh boy it was a chilly
experience diving into the
National Harbour. On the
bright side it was an amazing
sunset.
One Saturday morning I went
with my training buddy Helle
to Sandy Point, Maryland.
5. Finally – warmer weather
Just in time for the Cherry Blossom season the weather
turned very nice and it was enjoyable to run/bike/swim out
doors. We had a couple of great bbq feasts after Saturday
practice. We also had time to repeat the one thing we all
fear: how to change a flat tire during the race...
6. Ready, set, go...
After months of practice.
Miles of biking, swimming and running, we are finally ready
to drive one hour north of Washington DC to Columbia
Maryland.
Training done...
Snacks are packed..
Bikes are racked...
But mother nature
did not cooperate and
the swim got cancelled.
7. Pre-Race Day
If you love logistics, triathlon is for you
It takes planing, set up and prep for race day. We met up at
the race expo got our package and attended the mandatory
race info meeting. Then a short run and the traditional TNT
inspiration dinner. Which reminds us why we are doing
this... In 2013 Team in Training raised $70 million for
cancer research. Pretty cool...
8. Columbia Race Day
This course is one of the
most challenging in the
Nation. And this is
probably true.. There are
lots of steep hills to climb
both on the bike course
and the run course. It was
a great race – but it was a
bommer with the
cancelled swim
On the other hand – our
coaches ROCK !!
9. Headed to the finish line
Home stretch of the
25 miles of hill
climbing
”Swim out” wave #8, 40+ Women
Fighting the last hill on
the 6.2 miles run
11. Pre-Race Day
Williamsburg, Virginia is about a 3 ½ hrs drive
from DC – so it’s an early start Saturday..
Departure 6am to meet up at some
Starbucks and catch the practice
swim starting at 10:30am sharp!
12. Fueling up ... Or....
On the way to race expo to pick up the
package and attend the mandatory race info
we decided to make a pit stop and have a bite to eat... That
turned out to be a 1 ½ hrs wait time for a turkey wrap,
ultimately with no turkey – but great fun... Afterwards.
13. Inspiration Dinner & Tattoo
At our Inspiration Dinner
we had the most
amazing key note
speaker and one of our
team mates was
honored as the top
fundraiser. We had our
race numbers tattooed
and then headed to
bed. Sunday would be a
4:45am departure from
the hotel.
14. Rev3 Race Day
Blue Cap Women 40+ start 6:52am kicked
off an amazing race through the rolling hills of
Williamsburg and a beautiful and sunny day.
Unfortunately I have no pictures from the race yet...
15. Time: 03:40:00
This is no world champ time.
But it’s 20 mins better than my
Philly race in 2012..
So bascially a PR – if you can
make a PR with only two full
Olympic Distance Triathlons..
But I’m very happy about my
time and can’t wait to shave of
even more in future races.
16. Fun & Fundraising
Why am I getting up at the crack of dawn on a Saturday ?? Because TNT
is a wonderful organization with an amazing goal: to end cancer. Again
this year I’ve had the pleasure of volunteering at The Nike Womens Half
Marathon, at the National Pancake Day and I was lucky to help out at the
Leukemia Ball as well. All together with my great team mates. GO TEAM!
The Spring Triathlon Team in DC raised a total of $206,597...
THANKS for your contribution !!
17. Inspiration & Thanks
Too many to thank this season.
I reached my fundraising goal due to generous donations
from all of you... My fundraising page closes soon –
June 18th, so a few hours to go.

Thanks to every one who inspired me to beleive this can
be done, my little hero from the Philly Tri 2012, meanwhile
7 years old, cured from leukemia and declared she will be
100 years old.
My dear honored team mate for this season, who is so tough and fighting a
battle against a rare type of kidney cancer.
All the amazing TNT coaches, mentors and staff – thanks for a wonderful
season and for all your encouagement.
Thanks to my non-TNT training buddy Helle for taking turns to kick/encourage
me to fill up the training schedule.

The miracle is that I had
the courage to start.”
See you on the way to Berlin Marathon
