1. Spitsbergen Photography Tour
Spitsbergen in September offers the perfect opportunity to capture
some of the world’s most magnificent wildlife alongside dramatic
arctic landscapes.
Spitsbergen in September offers periods of darkness, providing
stunning sunrises and sunsets that only occur 2 months of the year,
giving people the rare chance to photograph the northern lights
during the later part of the day.
Arguably the best way to capture the landscape of Spitsbergen
has to by a small expedition ship. This way photographer’s get the
chance to experience the Arctic’s truly wild and wonderful
landscape and inhabitants.
Following the success of the last Spitsbergen tour in 2013, the entire
M/S Stockholm Ship has been secured for an intimate and exclusive
experience. This private tour commences in September 2016 with
photography guides Antony Spencer and Justin Reznick (weather
permitting, taking into account ice and animals). For a team of
landscape photographers, this is a fantastic opportunity to discover
Spitsbergen and with all the decision making being made onboard,
you will have the flexibility to adapt to the surroundings and ability
to prioritise the landscapes and wildlife available.
Travelling on the M/S Stockholm allows photographers to reach
places that would otherwise be impossible to access for humans,
offering the chance of a lifetime to experience large wild
mammals in their natural habitat such the White Polar Bear
together with impressive frozen landscapes.
The Spitsbergen tour is a once in a lifetime 11-day Arctic
adventure. Making daily landings with sturdy Zodiac landing
crafts, the tour aims to explore and capture some of the Arctic’s
most fascinating wildlife alongside the truly impressive and
dramatic polar wilderness. This together with good quality
2. onboard food and accommodation, this small expedition ship
offers an informal, relaxed environment with more focus on the
destination and more time ashore than larger vessels. The
restaurant is on main deck and takes all passengers including staff
in one seating, contributing to the relaxed and informal
atmosphere onboard. The tour’s route and wildlife encounters will
be weather dependent, so flexibility is key during this expedition.
Despite the charming nostalgic appearance of the M/S
Stockholm it is equipped with the latest navigation, technology
and safety equipment. The bridge, where passengers are
welcome, is fully equipped with GPS computers alongside
traditional compasses in shiny brass casing and on deck you will
find the latest model life crafts next to retired wooden lifeboats.
The 1953 M/S Stockholm was built for the Swedish maritime
administration as a working vessel in the Baltic Sea, which means
she was originally crafted for heavy ice conditions and later in
May 1997 she was refitted for passenger traffic around the Arctic
sea.
The essence of the expedition is the knowledge and enthusiasm of
the leaders, who have extensive knowledge, experience, and a
genuine passion for these regions.
