Women Empowerment Workshop- Phnom Penh

This series was created for the scholars of the Cambodian Arts and Scholarship Foundation.
About the Cambodian Arts and Scholarship Foundation: CASF is committed to improving
the lives of children in Cambodia through education. The Foundation's special
focus is (to) work with poor, at-risk girls who, for a number of reasons, are often
denied equal access to schooling. CASF collaborates with local communities to
identify potential students, provides financial, emotional and medical support
to these students and their families, and sustains this support for as long as the
student wants to learn.
1) Introduction:
 Completed introductions of the scholars and myself
 Asked scholars what “women empowerment” meant to them
 Compared their answers to the UN definition, breaking it down into greater
detail
 WORKSHOP GOALS: grow confidence, talk with each other about these issues,
everyone improve their English and write at least one sentence in English
2) Feminization of Poverty and Education
 Warmer
 Facts about women in poverty
 Brainstormed what would help alleviate this
 The consensus was: EDUCATION!!!
 Discussed why educating women is important and how a person, family,
community and government could help
3) Women’s Health Part 1
 Functions and names of female anatomy
 Women’s mental health (brief)
 Gathered questions
4) Women’sHealth Part 2
 5 major STI’s and HIV
 How each are contracted, their symptoms and how to treat them
 Gathered questions
5) Farewell
 Answered questions from previous health workshops and other questions
 Ate, took pictures and said our farewells 
RESULT
 GOALS ATTAINED
 Created relationships and bonds with Kimna and the scholars
 Loved my experience
