Guatemala faces significant challenges in achieving gender equality and the Millennium Development Goals by 2015 due to its history of armed conflict, unequal distribution of income and resources between indigenous and non-indigenous groups, and vulnerability to climate change impacts. Women in Guatemala experience systematic social, economic, political, and cultural exclusion and discrimination. While some progress has been made in increasing women's participation in government and addressing issues like maternal health and HIV, achieving equitable outcomes for women will require stronger public policies, improved coordination of international aid, and greater efforts to address the underlying disadvantages and violence faced by women.
