My first experience at orientation was Dean Groves' stately voice in Old Cabell Hall giving an unforgettable speech about the future role of the

I had no experience as a runner nor did I have the form. This did not phase me however. That year I promised myself to push through all the six
mile runs, sore legs, gnarly blisters, and at times, lack of oxygen. At every meet and speed workout practice I pushed myself further and further. I
set a goal every time I kicked off from the starting line and never let myself get discouraged when I failed. By my senior year, I was the fourth
fastest runner on varsity. That year our varsity team won the district meet, which qualified us to run in the 2016 state meet in Oregon. The
transformation over the years were evident. My determination to accomplish my goal of becoming a faster runner was complete. If I had simply just
given up that first day of practice, I wouldn't have ran along side of the fastest runners in Oregon or have met the multitude of people that are now
my closest friends. Having a goal sets one up for a challenge, whether it being physically or mentally, goals keep us active and thinking in more ways
than one. Still, if someone has self–control, confidence, and a goal, they are still not complete. Growth mindset is the cone to an ice cream. It is the
foundation of what I think a successful person is. Without it one couldn't use the characteristics mentioned above in more ways than one. Someone with

The illustrations in The Cat in the Hat really show the story and even if this book was a wordless picture book then children could understand
what is going on. I think that goes to show how much the illustrations really do enforce the text. On the very first page, Dr. Seuss establishes the
setting with a picture of a house and one can assume that is where the story takes place (Seuss 1). Dr. Seuss uses a lot of visual elements such as
lines to show movement and he only uses shades of blue and red to add color to his book. Something else that I found interesting was the fact that
he used the seam in the book as a corner in the house. On the first page, you see the house with a window on its side but no door which would
presumably be on the left side of the house where the stairs are. When you open to the second page, you see the children sitting at the window. On
pages five and six you finally see the door appear on a separate page than the window. If you close the book slightly you can imagine this is a 3–D
element to the book. I may be overthinking it but I think that if this was intentional then Dr. Seuss may have been smarter than people give him

By Daniel Konshak What is a tragedy? Merriam–Webster dictionary defines tragedy as a serious drama typically describing a conflict between the
protagonist and a superior force, such as destiny, and having a sorrowful or disastrous conclusion that elicits pity or terror. Two such examples of
literary tragedies are "Oedipus the King" by Sophocles and "Death of a Salesman" by Arthur Miller. Although written over 2000 years apart, there are
many similarities between the two literary works, but with varying degrees of differences as well. Some of the key areas to be examined when
making this comparison are: the social status of the main characters, the psychological mindsets the characters are in, their respective lack of
self–awareness, whether their fate was deserved or not, and the main fatal flaw of each main character. Let's begin by first examining the social
status of the two main characters from each literary selection. In "Oedipus the King" by Sophocles, the main character is, of course, Oedipus. As the
story unfolds, we find that Oedipus has been plagued by the prophecy that said he "should lie with his own mother" and "be his father's murderer"
