MAnaging Conflict Essay
Managing Conflict
What is conflict?
Conflict is a natural disagreement resulting from individuals or groups that differ in attitudes, beliefs, values or needs. It can also originate from past
rivalries and personality differences. Other causes of conflict include trying to negotiate before the timing is right or before needed information is
available.
Causes of conflict.
1. Lack of communication.
There is a lack of communications. Failure to share ideas and feelings (between wife and husband for example) allows the other person to "fill in
the gap." We "read in" what we think the other person will say or anticipate how the other person will respond. Then, we often suspect

Lack of agreement about "who's in charge" or "how we are going to get things done" in any situation can be a source of
conflict. For example, if one parent in a family expects democratic decision–making (all members have input) and the other wants to be the boss (do it
my way), they may not be able to resolve honest differences of opinion. Then when differences exist, they become sidetracked into a hassle over who
will decide or whose opinion is going to be accepted as the "right" one. The resulting conflict becomes a "win–lose" struggle.
4. Change causes disequilibrium.
While change is considered to be a "given" for people working and living together, another "given" is that people prefer secure,
predictable patterned responses to the unknown.
When changes occur abruptly and unpredictably, conflict may follow (e.g. The wife comes home from her college class one night and says "I
want a divorce."). Forces may have been at work for a long time to cause such a change, but it appears suddenly and provokes anger, anxiety and
confusion.
How to resolve conflict
1. Proper communication
Proper communication should be facilitated so as to avoid rumours and gossip.
This prevents people from thinking negative thoughts especially when they don't know what is happening.
2. Proper Leadership and effective decision–making.
In an organization there should be a proper structure

Essay on Conflict and Communication
Conflict and Communication
Conflict can happen anytime of your life, it will happen matter you want it or not. In addition, it can have both negative and positive impacts for our
relationship (Gudykunst, 2004). According to Yi–Feng 2007, she mentions that conflict is "incompatible activities, where one person's actions are
interfering, obstructing, or in other ways making the behavior of another less effective". In term of nature of conflict, conflict is a cause which happens
by threatened human needs problem (Kelman, 2002). The sources of conflict can divide into three things, there are misinterpret, disagree and
perceptions of incompatibilities (Roloff, 1987). In addition, in term of nature of nature of conflict, conflict can develop in...show more content...
In addition the way of people approach to managing conflict is depend on culture and ethnic (Ting–Toomey, 1985). For example, Asian use avoiding,
integrating and obliging to approach but European and American use dominating.
In term of face and conflict, we can divide in two parts. Firstly, cultural differences in face–concerns, Moriska and Gudykunst 1994 mention that "face
in collectivistic cultures is based on the interdependent self construal". In this case, Members of individualistic cultures attention to self–face
maintenance more than members of collectivistic cultures, however, Members of collectivistic cultures attention to other–face more than members of
individualistic culture (Ting–Toomey & Kurogi, 1998). In term of face management, face work tactics are the strategies used to solve problem between
others face and self–face when conflicts are managed (Oetzel et al, 1999). In addition, the politeness is need when we do something attract to the other
face (Brown & Levinson, 1987). Secondly, in term of ethnic difference in face–concerns, when people have different ethnic it can be concerns with
face because people have different identity and it easy to threaten the other face (Kwan & Sodowsky, 1997). However, in each culture and ethnic have
both different and similar in itself.
Lastly, in term of Managing Conflict, according to Ting–Toomey 2004 mentions that "Without

A group can only be called a team if the members are actively working together toward a common goal. A team must have the capability to set goals,
make decisions, solve problems, and share responsibilities. For a team to be successful, trust must be earned between its members by being
consistent and reliable (Temme & Katzel, 2005). When more than one person is working on a particular task, inconsistent views or opinions
commonly arise. People come from different backgrounds and live through different life experiences therefore, even when working towards a common
goal, they will not always see eye to eye. Major conflict that is not dealt with can devastate a team or organization (Make Conflict Work, 2008). In
some situations, conflict can...show more content...
The idea of conflict under this view brings to mind chaos, heated emotion, and high stress. The traditional mindset requires taking all necessary steps to
prevent and remove the source of the conflict that may be detrimental to the team. The human relations view understands that conflict is inevitable and
part of the natural process of interactions. The human relations view is a more neutral outlook, which allows conflict and is tolerant of its presents.
One that comes from this perspective expects conflict in a team setting and is more likely to resolve the issue when it arises rather than trying to
eliminate the source. The interactionist view considers conflict to be energizing and helpful in keeping constructive discussion going. The
interactionist view is a positive view that encourages opinions and expression of all members of an association. Conflict is considered a positive
influence towards change. Causes for Conflict Barbara Bowes discusses three major causes for conflict: different interests/goals, conflicting values, and
interpersonal styles (2008). Even though a team has the same ultimate goal, the intermediate steps to reach this goal may be unparallel. Imagine if Ray
Kroc, fast–food restaurateur, and a gourmet chef teamed up to open a restaurant. What conflicts might transpire? The team may have the same
definitive goal in mind, but the two would more than likely be dealing with the issue of quality versus convenience. The second

Conflict Resolution Styles
Abstract We deal with conflict on a daily basis, whether it is in our personal lives or professionally. Learning how we, as individuals, best approach
conflict resolution will allow us to become better mediators in managerial positions. Also, taking into consideration the different types of conflict
resolution styles will help us learn what those individual needs are and gain a better understanding of where the perspective their concerns come from.
Managing conflict styles, understanding why conflict occurred, how to move forward, how conflict is perceived, coping with conflict and
communication are extremely important in understanding the journey to a positive outcome where conflict is concerned.

Essay on International Conflict
1. International conflict among countries is more likely of what we may think. Today there are many different ongoing conflicts. International conflict
is a stage of opposition, disagreement or incompatibility between two or more states (Malek). The term "international conflict" referred to conflicts
between different nations and conflicts between people and organizations in different nations (Mr. Turetzky lec 11). It also applies to inter

Probably, there will be always conflict among countries impossible to control. However, we humanity has to do something to don let conflicts
transform in war. Conflict may be solved; but it is hard to control the destructive of a war. 2. There are different theories that seek to explain why
humans still fight in war. Some of the individual, state and global level theories of conflict are based on: Human Nature or Individual Leaders,
States' Internal characteristics, and Global Level System (Turetzky lec 11). Human Nature arguments for the causes of war are based in Sigmund
Freud idea that "aggression is simply part of human nature that stems from humans' genetic programming and psychological makeup." Realists also
"argue that violence is a product of bad human nature" and that there is not anything to eliminate this bad human habit. I believe that it is true that
humans' nature is composed with an instinct of violence (War). However, society has a lot to do with the expansion of this bad habit. Today
aggression is embedded in everything, which enforces our acceptance and practice of violence. Obviously, as realists argue, it is almost impossible to
eliminate this bad habit from human nature. In contrast, the individual Leader arguments blame the state leaders for wars. However, we can't blame a
country's leader for war. The author Stoessinger, stated in his book that a state head's perceptions are decisive in war (Stoessinger 65). I believe that a

Effective managers are successful within the workgroup and organization when a style is used to resolve a conflict. People do experience conflict in
their lives. There has always been a lot of interest in how to manage conflict once it appears in the open, and that is important. What is not so common
is a concern for preventing unnecessary conflict, so it does not start in the first place. Managers are capable of using all five resolutions skills to deal
with conflict in the workplace.
Organizations of all types need good managers in order to survive when dealing with conflicts that will occur within a workplace. Many people holding
management positions will be confronted with issues between two people or two groups...show more content...
Some people attempt to avoid conflict by postponing it, hiding their feelings, changing the subject, leaving the room or quitting the project. Sometimes,
doing nothing is a smart thing to do, providing the decision to do nothing is well thought out and based on an analysis of the situation. Although
avoidance might appear to be a "cop–out," it can sometimes be the most appropriate response. A common means of avoiding conflict is to be
secretive. This can be done by employees and managers. The notion is that if no one knows what is being done, there can be little conflict. By being
secretive, one may delay conflict and confrontation, but when it does surface it will have far more negative emotions attached to it than would have
been the case if things were more open. It may be wise to avoid a conflict if the issue is minor or if the potential conflict partner is a formidable
opponent. Not every conflict justifies your attention. One should not routinely withdraw from conflicts because it provides only a temporary fix and
sidesteps the underlying problem. An accommodating manager is also known as a "smoothing" or "obliging" manager (Hemmer, 2003).
Accommodating is allowing the desires of the other party to prevail. This resolution reflects low assertiveness and high cooperativeness.
Accommodating may be an appropriate conflict–handling strategy when a manager wants to show reasoning, develop performance, create good will,
and to keep peace.

Dealing With Conflict Essay
Dealing with Conflict
1.1
 Potential conflict can arise when two parties or people have a disagreement on a particular subject. For example, a person may have
said he was going to complete a task which he failed to do which caused conflict with another person or party, or maybe two people who have
different ideas on who to accomplish a task may become heated.
 Stages of conflict are hard to describe in detail but it usually starts with raised voices to get an opinion across which can escalate into a
yelling match as one person tries to get the other person or party to agree with what he is saying. Basically conflict will stop when both parties or people
agree on something, as conflict won't usually end if there...show more content...

3.1 – Factors Effecting Timing & Environment For Communication
Care should be taken in communicating with other in the workplace. Factors such as anger and stress could be dangerous when communicating, as
people are often very temperamental when affected by these factors. Another factor could be the environment, such as a meeting, could hinder
communication as reputations and even jobs could be at stake if in appropriate communication is used. Basically, there is a time and a place for all
various types of communication and care should be taken when talking to our peers and our bosses.
3.2 – Effective Non–Verbal and Verbal Communication
Body Language – This is important as people usually take note of how a person acts and moves. For example, if a person sometimes scratches their
nose when speaking, it could mean to other people that he is trying to cover something up.
Questioning – Never be afraid to question a person for the sake of your own better understanding of a subject. It is different when questioning a
person's ability or understanding of a subject, which could result in conflict.
Language Style – People in work environments need to be able to understand everyone clearly, so correct language and vocabulary needs to be used in

How to Resolve Conflict Essay
Conflict is in inevitable part of our everyday lives. Since no two people view things in the exact same manner, disagreement will most certainly arise
at some point in time. Conflict is simply a difference of opinion and is considered to be a normal part of our everyday lives. There are several different
forms of conflict and not all of them are considered to be bad. This paper will discuss the causes of conflict, the different types of conflict, and barriers
to conflict. According to Communication Research Associates, conflict is a condition of imbalance within an individual (Communication Research
Associates, 2005, p. 178). Keep in mind that just as there are disadvantages to conflict, there are also several advantages.

For example, if you are at work and walk by someone's desk and accidently knock their pen on the floor. All of sudden, the person lashes out and
starts to curse at you. Knowing that this is not the norm for your coworker, it would safe to assume that they are under some form of stress or have
other things on their mind. By knowing this, it becomes easier to respond in a more responsible, tempered, and appropriate, manner. Sometimes ego
can become a cause for conflict as well. There may come a time when someone is wrong about something or they may have made a mistake but they
refuse to admit it. Because they have such a high ego, they may become self–protective of their situation, therefore causing conflict because they refuse
to admit they were wrong. Instead they may choose to become persistent in standing their ground, whether they are right or wrong.
During communication, if the intended goals are not clearly identified, there is a greater possibility for error and it could further aggravate a situation,
causing conflict. Because each individual is different there are bound to be clashes within certain personality types. For example, if someone prefers
to discuss everything in detail and I prefer to get straight to the point then we could have a personality clash because we are not seeing things
eye–to–eye. They may view me as being incompetent or irresponsible while I would

Conflict 2
Organizational conflict is a state of discord caused by the actual or perceived opposition of needs, values and interests between people working together.
Conflict takes many forms in organizations. There is the inevitable clash between formal authority and power and those individuals and groups
affected. There are disputes over how revenues should be divided, how the work should be done, and how long and hard people should work. There are
jurisdictional disagreements among individuals, departments, and between unions and management. There are subtler forms of conflict involving
rivalries, jealousies, personality clashes,...show more content...
From this perspective, conflict occurs as a result of malfunctioning individuals or organizations. Therefore, in order to resolve conflict, problems must
be identified, causes must be analyzed, and those people or situations contributing to the conflict must be "fixed" (Kilmann & Thomas, 1978). This
mechanistic view approaches conflict resolution as a logical, linear process. Robbins comments: "Although research studies now provide strong
evidence to dispute that this approach to conflict reduction results in high group performance, many still evaluate conflict situations utilizing this
outmoded standard" (2001, p. 384).
In the 1950s the emerging human relations view of conflict began to replace the earlier traditional view. The human relations position suggests that
conflict is a natural phenomenon in groups and organizations. Therefore, since it is inevitable, it must be accepted and managed. During this era, the
management literature introduced the term conflict management (Nurmi & Darling, 1997); and, by the 1970s, the field of organization development,
with its tool–kit of team–building interventions, began to go mainstream, thus providing organizations with new resources for dealing with conflict.
Conflict 4
More recently, a third conflict school of thought has emerged, referred to as the interactionist view. This perspective

Different Types of Conflicts Essay
Conflicts can happen within a group due to various reasons.
These types of conflict can be classified into conflict over responsibility of team members, conflict over insufficient resources, conflict over
interpersonal relationship and conflict of interests. In terms of conflict that exist in our group, the conflict over insufficient resources arose, as there was
a slight issue on the use of materials in the second game of the team building activities.
The second game of CA1, as mentioned above, involved 'protecting' the balloon from bursting as we were given different types of materials to devise
a method to ensure the balloon did not burst when we release the balloon into the basket containing a needle. With the 10 given materials, we...show

Conflicts continue to fester when ignored and they stay with us until we face and resolve them. We may respond to conflicts based on our
perceptions of the situation, not necessarily to an objective review of the facts. Our perceptions are often influenced by our life experiences, culture,
values, and beliefs, and conflicts trigger strong emotions. However, if these emotions are not managed properly, the conflict won't be able to resolve
conflict successfully. Thus, to allow us to better understand the conflict, first of all, we need all parties to have an open and perceptive to different
opinions or ideas that we are faced with. It is true that no two minds are the same, and no two person think the same way for every single problem.
Therefore, conflicting parties should stand from an unbiased point of view by all parties can allow further steps in liaising for a common agreement,

Conflicts can be an opportunity for growth. When you're able to resolve conflict in a relationship, it builds trust. A sense of security is assured when
the people in a relationship survive challenges and disagreements. Conflict triggers strong emotions and can lead to hurt feelings, disappointment, and
discomfort. When handled in an unhealthy manner, it can cause irreparable rifts, resentments, and break–ups. But when conflict is resolved in a
healthy way, it increases our understanding of one another, builds trust, and strengthens our relationship bonds.

Conflict Resolution
What does conflict resolution mean to me? Conflict resolution is when an impartial or neutral person puts a plan into action to resolve and settle
issues within an organization or a team. In the business world today a great amount of focus is being placed on employees working as team unit to
increase new ideas, distribute more job responsibilities among a larger group, and most important create a unified front and camaraderie. Along with
advantages there are always disadvantages, wherever there are teams, there is a chance for conflict. Conflict is almost a guarantee. As long as team

It is extremely vital to the livelihood of a team for the team members to be able use conflict resolutions or reach out to another individual who has
conflict resolution skills.
Is conflict constructive or destructive? Conflict can be good for a team if the members involved in the conflict learn some type of lesson about the
issue. It also can create a solution for future problems with different individuals. It can create a sense of unity and fresh ideas on ways to resolve the
conflict. Conflict can also be a very destructive force to an organization if after all is said and done, conflict continues without a resolution. It creates
chaos instead of camaraderie and divides teams or different groups of people. What causes conflict? There are numerous reasons that conflict may arise
within a team. A team with many different people includes many different personalities, cultures, values, attitudes, needs, expectations, etc.
In order to resolve conflict it is very important to follow a few steps:
1. Analyze the reason for the disagreement.
2. Create several solutions or options for all parties involved.
3. Make sure all involved agree on the solution.
4. Implement the solution immediately, time is of the essence.
5. Follow up on the situation

CONFLICTS AND DISPUTES ARE INEVITABLE Conflict is defined as the behaviour due to which people differ in their feelings, thought and/or
actions. Collins (1995) states that the conflict is a 'serious disagreement and argument about something important' and also as 'a serious difference
between two or more beliefs, ideas or interests' (cf. Kumaraswamy, 1997, p. 96). In general it is believed that conflicts are the underlying cause of
disputes. In other words, dispute is a manifestation of the deep rooted conflict. A dispute is defined as 'a class or kind of conflict, which manifests
itself in distinct, justifiable issues. It involves disagreement over issues capable of resolution by negotiation, mediation or third party adjudication'

So, it is said that a conflict can exist without a dispute but a dispute cannot exist without a conflict (Spangler and Burgess, 2003). Many authors have
highlighted the inevitability of conflicts on the other hand it is said that disputes can be prevented or at least can be minimized through proper
management. Conflicts are ubiquitous where ever a large number of people are involved i.e. where the human relationships proliferate
(Kumaraswamy, 1997). People are the principle resource for any commercial project today. Different project managers, engineers, surveyors
belonging to different organizations and having different needs, goals and each of them looking to maximize their benefits are brought together to
form a team. Because of these differences in the individuals the conflicts and disputes become inevitable in a project. Conflicts are generally
perceived as a negative term but it has both positive and negative sides. Positive conflicts can be helpful to generate new ideas, make innovations,
helps people to 'Be real' and creative. But this conflict has to be maintained so that it does not get out of control and bring about dysfunctional
consequences. There are large numbers of potential sources that makes conflict inevitable in a project. Some of them are explained below: – (scribd) It

"If you want Conflict try to change something"
Conflict manifests itself into many shapes and forms. Conflict can be defined as a struggle or contest between individuals or parties for power. The
struggle ultimately changes the status quo and brings about an imbalance in the existing situation. The change in the status quo could be either positive
or negative. In Finding Forrester composed by Gus Van Sant, The poem, "Then and Now", by Oodgeroo of the Tribe Noonuccal and the article on
Mahatma Gandhi by Ravi Kumar we find that conflict manifests itself into Inner, Moral and Socio–economic forms, amongst others.

William cycles to Jamal's school to save him from losing his scholarship. This shows us that William is trying to break free from the inner conflict
within him. The composer uses the high angle camera shot to show William's struggle amongst the large masses of people at the subway. Once again
this ongoing inner conflict is portrayed. This is evident that William is winning this battle and eventually something positive comes out of it. The
change finally comes about when William tells the school that Jamal Wallace wrote that article. Thereby finally embracing the world over and above
himself
Socio–economic conflict can best be described as a disagreement between social needs of society and economic needs. This conflict is depicted in
the poem "Then and Now" by Oodgeroo of the Tribe Noonuccal. In the poem a lonely man dreams of the tribe "laughing as they hunt and swim" but
suddenly his dreams are shattered by the sounds of "rushing cars and hissing train's". As the man walks alone in the 'teeming town' he is astonished by
the socio–economic developments that have changed his very culture and being. "I have seen corroboree, where that factory belches smoke". This
shows that the cultural heritage that existed with the Aboriginal people has been washed away with the rampant economic developments that the
'white man' has implemented. The poet skilfully portrays this by saying "children of nature

MAnaging Conflict Essay

  • 1. MAnaging Conflict Essay Managing Conflict What is conflict? Conflict is a natural disagreement resulting from individuals or groups that differ in attitudes, beliefs, values or needs. It can also originate from past rivalries and personality differences. Other causes of conflict include trying to negotiate before the timing is right or before needed information is available. Causes of conflict. 1. Lack of communication. There is a lack of communications. Failure to share ideas and feelings (between wife and husband for example) allows the other person to "fill in the gap." We "read in" what we think the other person will say or anticipate how the other person will respond. Then, we often suspect negative things...show more content... Lack of agreement about "who's in charge" or "how we are going to get things done" in any situation can be a source of conflict. For example, if one parent in a family expects democratic decision–making (all members have input) and the other wants to be the boss (do it my way), they may not be able to resolve honest differences of opinion. Then when differences exist, they become sidetracked into a hassle over who will decide or whose opinion is going to be accepted as the "right" one. The resulting conflict becomes a "win–lose" struggle. 4. Change causes disequilibrium. While change is considered to be a "given" for people working and living together, another "given" is that people prefer secure, predictable patterned responses to the unknown. When changes occur abruptly and unpredictably, conflict may follow (e.g. The wife comes home from her college class one night and says "I want a divorce."). Forces may have been at work for a long time to cause such a change, but it appears suddenly and provokes anger, anxiety and confusion. How to resolve conflict 1. Proper communication Proper communication should be facilitated so as to avoid rumours and gossip.
  • 2. This prevents people from thinking negative thoughts especially when they don't know what is happening. 2. Proper Leadership and effective decision–making. In an organization there should be a proper structure Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay on Conflict and Communication Conflict and Communication Conflict can happen anytime of your life, it will happen matter you want it or not. In addition, it can have both negative and positive impacts for our relationship (Gudykunst, 2004). According to Yi–Feng 2007, she mentions that conflict is "incompatible activities, where one person's actions are interfering, obstructing, or in other ways making the behavior of another less effective". In term of nature of conflict, conflict is a cause which happens by threatened human needs problem (Kelman, 2002). The sources of conflict can divide into three things, there are misinterpret, disagree and perceptions of incompatibilities (Roloff, 1987). In addition, in term of nature of nature of conflict, conflict can develop in...show more content... In addition the way of people approach to managing conflict is depend on culture and ethnic (Ting–Toomey, 1985). For example, Asian use avoiding, integrating and obliging to approach but European and American use dominating. In term of face and conflict, we can divide in two parts. Firstly, cultural differences in face–concerns, Moriska and Gudykunst 1994 mention that "face in collectivistic cultures is based on the interdependent self construal". In this case, Members of individualistic cultures attention to self–face maintenance more than members of collectivistic cultures, however, Members of collectivistic cultures attention to other–face more than members of individualistic culture (Ting–Toomey & Kurogi, 1998). In term of face management, face work tactics are the strategies used to solve problem between others face and self–face when conflicts are managed (Oetzel et al, 1999). In addition, the politeness is need when we do something attract to the other face (Brown & Levinson, 1987). Secondly, in term of ethnic difference in face–concerns, when people have different ethnic it can be concerns with face because people have different identity and it easy to threaten the other face (Kwan & Sodowsky, 1997). However, in each culture and ethnic have both different and similar in itself. • 4. Conflict Resolution Essay A group can only be called a team if the members are actively working together toward a common goal. A team must have the capability to set goals, make decisions, solve problems, and share responsibilities. For a team to be successful, trust must be earned between its members by being consistent and reliable (Temme & Katzel, 2005). When more than one person is working on a particular task, inconsistent views or opinions commonly arise. People come from different backgrounds and live through different life experiences therefore, even when working towards a common goal, they will not always see eye to eye. Major conflict that is not dealt with can devastate a team or organization (Make Conflict Work, 2008). In some situations, conflict can...show more content... The idea of conflict under this view brings to mind chaos, heated emotion, and high stress. The traditional mindset requires taking all necessary steps to prevent and remove the source of the conflict that may be detrimental to the team. The human relations view understands that conflict is inevitable and part of the natural process of interactions. The human relations view is a more neutral outlook, which allows conflict and is tolerant of its presents. One that comes from this perspective expects conflict in a team setting and is more likely to resolve the issue when it arises rather than trying to eliminate the source. The interactionist view considers conflict to be energizing and helpful in keeping constructive discussion going. The interactionist view is a positive view that encourages opinions and expression of all members of an association. Conflict is considered a positive influence towards change. Causes for Conflict Barbara Bowes discusses three major causes for conflict: different interests/goals, conflicting values, and interpersonal styles (2008). Even though a team has the same ultimate goal, the intermediate steps to reach this goal may be unparallel. Imagine if Ray Kroc, fast–food restaurateur, and a gourmet chef teamed up to open a restaurant. What conflicts might transpire? The team may have the same definitive goal in mind, but the two would more than likely be dealing with the issue of quality versus convenience. The second Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Conflict Resolution Styles Abstract We deal with conflict on a daily basis, whether it is in our personal lives or professionally. Learning how we, as individuals, best approach conflict resolution will allow us to become better mediators in managerial positions. Also, taking into consideration the different types of conflict resolution styles will help us learn what those individual needs are and gain a better understanding of where the perspective their concerns come from. Managing conflict styles, understanding why conflict occurred, how to move forward, how conflict is perceived, coping with conflict and communication are extremely important in understanding the journey to a positive outcome where conflict is concerned. • 6. Essay on International Conflict 1. International conflict among countries is more likely of what we may think. Today there are many different ongoing conflicts. International conflict is a stage of opposition, disagreement or incompatibility between two or more states (Malek). The term "international conflict" referred to conflicts between different nations and conflicts between people and organizations in different nations (Mr. Turetzky lec 11). It also applies to inter –group conflicts within one country when one group is fighting for independence or increased social, political, or economic power. International conflicts can be divided into two branches: private international conflict and public international conflict. A private international conflict is a disagreement...show more content... Probably, there will be always conflict among countries impossible to control. However, we humanity has to do something to don let conflicts transform in war. Conflict may be solved; but it is hard to control the destructive of a war. 2. There are different theories that seek to explain why humans still fight in war. Some of the individual, state and global level theories of conflict are based on: Human Nature or Individual Leaders, States' Internal characteristics, and Global Level System (Turetzky lec 11). Human Nature arguments for the causes of war are based in Sigmund Freud idea that "aggression is simply part of human nature that stems from humans' genetic programming and psychological makeup." Realists also "argue that violence is a product of bad human nature" and that there is not anything to eliminate this bad human habit. I believe that it is true that humans' nature is composed with an instinct of violence (War). However, society has a lot to do with the expansion of this bad habit. Today aggression is embedded in everything, which enforces our acceptance and practice of violence. Obviously, as realists argue, it is almost impossible to eliminate this bad habit from human nature. In contrast, the individual Leader arguments blame the state leaders for wars. However, we can't blame a country's leader for war. The author Stoessinger, stated in his book that a state head's perceptions are decisive in war (Stoessinger 65). • 7. Managing Conflict Essay example Effective managers are successful within the workgroup and organization when a style is used to resolve a conflict. People do experience conflict in their lives. There has always been a lot of interest in how to manage conflict once it appears in the open, and that is important. What is not so common is a concern for preventing unnecessary conflict, so it does not start in the first place. Managers are capable of using all five resolutions skills to deal with conflict in the workplace. Organizations of all types need good managers in order to survive when dealing with conflicts that will occur within a workplace. Many people holding management positions will be confronted with issues between two people or two groups...show more content... Some people attempt to avoid conflict by postponing it, hiding their feelings, changing the subject, leaving the room or quitting the project. Sometimes, doing nothing is a smart thing to do, providing the decision to do nothing is well thought out and based on an analysis of the situation. Although avoidance might appear to be a "cop–out," it can sometimes be the most appropriate response. A common means of avoiding conflict is to be secretive. This can be done by employees and managers. The notion is that if no one knows what is being done, there can be little conflict. By being secretive, one may delay conflict and confrontation, but when it does surface it will have far more negative emotions attached to it than would have been the case if things were more open. It may be wise to avoid a conflict if the issue is minor or if the potential conflict partner is a formidable opponent. Not every conflict justifies your attention. One should not routinely withdraw from conflicts because it provides only a temporary fix and sidesteps the underlying problem. An accommodating manager is also known as a "smoothing" or "obliging" manager (Hemmer, 2003). Accommodating is allowing the desires of the other party to prevail. This resolution reflects low assertiveness and high cooperativeness. Accommodating may be an appropriate conflict–handling strategy when a manager wants to show reasoning, develop performance, create good will, and to keep peace. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Dealing With Conflict Essay Dealing with Conflict 1.1  Potential conflict can arise when two parties or people have a disagreement on a particular subject. For example, a person may have said he was going to complete a task which he failed to do which caused conflict with another person or party, or maybe two people who have different ideas on who to accomplish a task may become heated.  Stages of conflict are hard to describe in detail but it usually starts with raised voices to get an opinion across which can escalate into a yelling match as one person tries to get the other person or party to agree with what he is saying. Basically conflict will stop when both parties or people agree on something, as conflict won't usually end if there...show more content... Factors such as anger and stress could be dangerous when communicating, as people are often very temperamental when affected by these factors. Another factor could be the environment, such as a meeting, could hinder communication as reputations and even jobs could be at stake if in appropriate communication is used. Basically, there is a time and a place for all various types of communication and care should be taken when talking to our peers and our bosses. 3.2 – Effective Non–Verbal and Verbal Communication Body Language – This is important as people usually take note of how a person acts and moves. For example, if a person sometimes scratches their nose when speaking, it could mean to other people that he is trying to cover something up. Questioning – Never be afraid to question a person for the sake of your own better understanding of a subject. It is different when questioning a person's ability or understanding of a subject, which could result in conflict.

  • 10. How to Resolve Conflict Essay Conflict is in inevitable part of our everyday lives. Since no two people view things in the exact same manner, disagreement will most certainly arise at some point in time. Conflict is simply a difference of opinion and is considered to be a normal part of our everyday lives. There are several different forms of conflict and not all of them are considered to be bad. This paper will discuss the causes of conflict, the different types of conflict, and barriers to conflict. According to Communication Research Associates, conflict is a condition of imbalance within an individual (Communication Research Associates, 2005, p. 178). Keep in mind that just as there are disadvantages to conflict, there are also several advantages. In order to...show more content... For example, if you are at work and walk by someone's desk and accidently knock their pen on the floor. All of sudden, the person lashes out and starts to curse at you. Knowing that this is not the norm for your coworker, it would safe to assume that they are under some form of stress or have other things on their mind. By knowing this, it becomes easier to respond in a more responsible, tempered, and appropriate, manner. Sometimes ego can become a cause for conflict as well. There may come a time when someone is wrong about something or they may have made a mistake but they refuse to admit it. Because they have such a high ego, they may become self–protective of their situation, therefore causing conflict because they refuse to admit they were wrong. Instead they may choose to become persistent in standing their ground, whether they are right or wrong. During communication, if the intended goals are not clearly identified, there is a greater possibility for error and it could further aggravate a situation, causing conflict. Because each individual is different there are bound to be clashes within certain personality types. For example, if someone prefers to discuss everything in detail and I prefer to get straight to the point then we could have a personality clash because we are not seeing things eye–to–eye. • 11. Essay on Organizational Conflict Conflict 1 Organizational Conflict: The three views Organizational Conflict: The three views Conflict 2 Organizational conflict is a state of discord caused by the actual or perceived opposition of needs, values and interests between people working together. Conflict takes many forms in organizations. There is the inevitable clash between formal authority and power and those individuals and groups affected. There are disputes over how revenues should be divided, how the work should be done, and how long and hard people should work. There are jurisdictional disagreements among individuals, departments, and between unions and management. There are subtler forms of conflict involving rivalries, jealousies, personality clashes,...show more content... From this perspective, conflict occurs as a result of malfunctioning individuals or organizations. Therefore, in order to resolve conflict, problems must be identified, causes must be analyzed, and those people or situations contributing to the conflict must be "fixed" (Kilmann & Thomas, 1978). This mechanistic view approaches conflict resolution as a logical, linear process. Robbins comments: "Although research studies now provide strong evidence to dispute that this approach to conflict reduction results in high group performance, many still evaluate conflict situations utilizing this outmoded standard" (2001, p. 384). In the 1950s the emerging human relations view of conflict began to replace the earlier traditional view. The human relations position suggests that conflict is a natural phenomenon in groups and organizations. Therefore, since it is inevitable, it must be accepted and managed. During this era, the management literature introduced the term conflict management (Nurmi & Darling, 1997); and, by the 1970s, the field of organization development, with its tool–kit of team–building interventions, began to go mainstream, thus providing organizations with new resources for dealing with conflict. Conflict 4 More recently, a third conflict school of thought has emerged, referred to as the interactionist view. This perspective

  • 13. Different Types of Conflicts Essay Conflicts can happen within a group due to various reasons. These types of conflict can be classified into conflict over responsibility of team members, conflict over insufficient resources, conflict over interpersonal relationship and conflict of interests. In terms of conflict that exist in our group, the conflict over insufficient resources arose, as there was a slight issue on the use of materials in the second game of the team building activities. The second game of CA1, as mentioned above, involved 'protecting' the balloon from bursting as we were given different types of materials to devise a method to ensure the balloon did not burst when we release the balloon into the basket containing a needle. With the 10 given materials, we...show more content... Conflicts continue to fester when ignored and they stay with us until we face and resolve them. We may respond to conflicts based on our perceptions of the situation, not necessarily to an objective review of the facts. Our perceptions are often influenced by our life experiences, culture, values, and beliefs, and conflicts trigger strong emotions. However, if these emotions are not managed properly, the conflict won't be able to resolve conflict successfully. Thus, to allow us to better understand the conflict, first of all, we need all parties to have an open and perceptive to different opinions or ideas that we are faced with. It is true that no two minds are the same, and no two person think the same way for every single problem.
