The word ofthe Lord came to me:

“Sonof man,speak to your people and say to them:
‘When I bring the sword againsta land, and the people
of the land choose one of their men and make him
their watchman,

and he sees the sword coming againstthe landand
blows the trumpet to warnthe people,

then ifanyone hears thetrumpet butdoes not heed the
warning and the sword comes and takes their life, their
bloodwillbe on their own head.

Sincethey heard the soundof the trumpet but did not
heed the warning, their bloodwillbe on their own
head. Ifthey had heeded the warning, they wouldhave
saved themselves.

Butif the watchmansees the sword coming and does
not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the
sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s
lifewillbe taken because of their sin, but I willholdthe
watchmanaccountablefor their blood.’

people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give
them warning from me.

When I say tothe wicked, ‘Youwicked person, you will
surely die,’ and you do notspeak out to dissuadethem
from their ways, that wicked person willdie for their
sin, and I willholdyou accountablefor their blood.
