Buck Dwyer worked as a GIS intern at the City of Bemidji from 2008-2009. He gained experience completing mapping projects for several city departments using software like ESRI and Trimble GPS. Buck worked independently to collect and process field data into the city's GIS system. His former supervisor, Brett Case, states that Buck is well prepared for a career in GIS due to his education, experience working on technical and detailed projects, and positive attitude.

RE: Buck Dwyer
To Whom It May Concern:
I was Buck’s supervisor while he was a GIS Intern at the City of Bemidji from June 2008 – July
2009. Buck gained experience completing projects for several departments such as Public
Works, Building, Planning and Zoning, E911 Services and many map requests for citizens and
employees of the City. Buck worked with a wide range of data including road data, water, sewer,
storm water, aerial photography, zoning, addressing, construction as-builts and parcel data.
While working at the City Buck learned a lot about utility construction and how to take
information gathered in the field or from construction plans and transform it into useful GIS data.
Buck used ESRI software, Trimble GPS and Trimble Geomatics Office extensively. He worked
with data in different formats including shapefiles, coverages, geodatabases, AutoCAD
drawings, Excel and Access tables. Much of Buck’s work was technical and detail oriented and
ranged from simple maps to complex spatial analysis.
After his initial training, Buck was often entrusted with our survey grade GPS equipment and a
City vehicle. He had no problems working in the field on his own to collect data and then
process it into our GIS system.
Buck was required to work both independently and coordinate with groups of people. He
handled each task in a timely and responsible manner.
Buck’s unproblematic approach to work allowed me to complete tasks I would not normally have
had time to work on.
As Buck’s former supervisor I can say without a doubt that he is well prepared to work in the
GIS profession. Buck displayed the ability to learn quickly and adapt to any challenge given. His
education, experience and great attitude will augment any work place.
Please contact me at (218) 759-3595 if you would like to discuss Buck’s experience further.
Sincerely,
Brett Case
